My biggest problem with Joe Burrow is his pocket presence

Don't get me wrong here I know our Oline is not that good but you just know when a qb has it and too me he doesn't. If you know you are getting pressured every throw then why do you act like you have all day. Get rid of it quick or roll out do something instead of losing 10 yards. I know this is his first official year as a starter but this is just my opinion. It could be play calling also but good qb's adjust.

Something to consider is that he's only started in 9 games. Pocket presence comes with time. IMO, that's the biggest improvement that you see from a freshman/soph to a junior/senior QB. They understand the pressures.

I think we could mask his lack of awareness a little better by

a.) better line play
b.) scheming. Call less plays that take 4+ seconds to develop

His accuracy isn’t on point.

Id rather have someone with great pocket presence that moves around and never runs but lets his receivers have time to get open amd avoid a sack than someone that can scramble for a 1st but can't recognize when exactly he should get out of there or step up. Say like a Brady/Brees over a Cam Newton

He holds onto the ball too long at times, so I agree. He still has a chance to be a very good qb in the future though. I hope the offensive line gets better the rest of the year and going into next year.

I think they're putting to much pressure on him (coaching staff). Every time they let him throw it, it's like he's trying to win the game because we suck offensively.

I'd love to see him with a real OC.

With the terrible offensive production, no one should have called that pass play!!!!

I would love to bring in Briles. The only problem with Briles is that, that would completely change our dynamic. The offensive style he runs doesn’t fit with our defense, and our defense would suffer. I really do still want Briles or at least a great offensive mind, but it would change the entire dynamic of our team.

exactly, we run for 2 yards then receiver drops a screen pass so its now 3rd and long and the D is bringing the house as E calls for a complicated 5 second slow developing pass play

I kind of wish he would do more like Etling did and run (forward) too soon sometimes, because he too often goes for the spin around roll out and gets met in the face by someone he didn't detect at all, and he's going to keep losing the ball that way. I got annoyed at Etling for taking off too soon, but 5 yards is better than -5 or a fumble.

His pocket presence at the start of the season was much better and more confident imo. I think that the hits and sacks he has taken recently starting with the Florida game caused him to start watching the rush a bit more.

O commented that he started watching the rush early against bama. I also agree that his pocket awareness has suffered some. A porous offensive line tends to do that to a QB. They simply have to get better players on the line next year.

Does he ever have a pocket with this o-line?

Doesn’t there have to be a pocket to have pocket presence?

Well if you know there is no pocket then why take the snap and pretend you have 5 secs to throw. I would have that fricking dan Marino release. Take the snap ball out in 2 sec with this oline
