We were talking about this last night at work, here is what we came up with.

Can you think of anymore, or what you think is the most important?

These are not in any order:

1. 2 football NC's in four years

2. 5 baseball NC's in ten years

3. 12 consecutive Track & Field NC's

4. Maravich's record breakers

5. W. Morris walk off home run

6. 58 team goes from unranked to NC's

7. Three Platoon system & Wing T (ties in with #6)

8. Billy Cannon's 59 punt return vs Ole Miss

9. 1st #9 seed basketball team to make Final Four

10. LSU is only Triple Double SEC Champs (not sure if true, guy at work said it)

11. Earthquake Game

12. Blue Grass Miracle

13. 2008 baseball 23-game win streak

Any others?

If I was to guess, I would say #10 is the most defining moment (if true), than a tie between W. Morris and '58 unranked team.

Yeah I'd have to add the 1st victory over a #1 team in Tiger Stadium in 97.

I'd also have to add Josh Reed's 2001 season because probably no SEC WR will do what he did again.

I voted for this because it really was a "MOMENT".

Another good one.

And I was there to witness it.

The moment we are talking about defines all of LSU sports, not just one sport.

True, and i'm really not trying to be nitpicky but I called the SEC Triple Double in championships maybe the most defining FEAT in LSU sports history, but it's not a "moment."

Sorry, if i'm reaching here, lol.

Even though we lost, I understand the '79 game against USC was a more defining game than the FLA game. This game put LSU back on the maps.

I maybe wrong, but ask some of the older fans who were at both games.

I was at both. The USC game was more intense start to finish, but for a different reason. LSU should have won the game, but those F'ing Refs and those bogus calls were too much to overcome. There's never been a game like that in TS and probably never will be again. After we marched back to the bandroom after the game, I just sat out in the Greek Theater for several hours. Didn't even put my bass drum up or anything. One of the TB staff members had to go get me and tell me they were locking up, so I finally had to go put my stuff up. Went back out to the GT for a little more cooling off time while listening to the post game shows.......

John Ed Bradley said he lost something like 15 pounds during the '79 USC game. If you read his book, you get exhausted just reading about that game.

Not to be a typo-narc - but it was 89 yds.

At the time, it was commonly referred to as 87 yds, but for decades, I have seen it referred to as 89 yards = they must have re-looked at the film and calibrated the spot more accurately.

59 refers to the year

Some people think it was during the NC year. I hear commentators make this mistake a lot.

-the inception of TAF allows LSU to have the facilities it has today, thus the recruits, thus the success

-the hiring of Dinardo combined with the signing of Kevin Faulk turned LSU's football program around

-hiring of saban- who brought LSU's program (enabled by TAF) to current status

I agree. If I were to pick the most defining and significant moment in LSU history, it would not be a sporting event.

It would be the inception of TAF. Without it, we do not see the quality of coaches, significant revenue streams or improvement in facilities.

Without it, we probably don't win the crystals because we don't pay the coaches and don't improve facilities to recruit.

Becuase LSU and Ole Miss was a huge rivalry and that game had national championship ramifications. LSU ruined Ole Miss's chance at a NC

We were an 11 seed in 1986 and therefore the first 11 seed to make the Final Four.

The Elite 8 win in 1986 and Sweet 16 upset of #1 seed Duke in 2006,both in Atlanta need consideration. Superb wins, which I'm thrilled to say I was there to see.
