Pretty heavy stuff. She seems like a sweet, genuine person. I'm sure she's still working through some of her pain, though.

Jesus. I don't know if I could have handled that situation as well as she did. I go on a binge when LSU loses a game.

I wonder what the secret was

It was a financial issue with the IRS. The only reason I mentioned it is because it's included in the SI article...

That's a very heavy and revealing story, and I agree with the earlier posts; she's a very gifted writer.

And while a 20 year-old me certainly would have understood the IWHI sentiments expressed in this thread, the 41 year-old me has a young daughter who plays goalie.

It's interesting how time, maturity, and a few kids can drastically alter one's perspective.

Good luck to Meaux.

I have walked in Mo's shoes. When you loose a parent like that (I did also) it is very hard to express your feelings. I was 14 when it happened to my family and I never really recovered. Mo's testimony is spot on I shed a few tears reading her thoughts as all those old feelings poured back into my mind.

Awesome is all I can say. I am a HUGE Mo fan now!

As the father of three girls myself, you are spot on.

Thanks for sharing.

Awesome read. I felt for her.

Side note: she is an amazingly good writer. Excellent use of vocabulary and really sets the mood in her writing.

I will be cheering for her in soccer and in life.

All the frickin losers who are caught up on just lookin at her and not reading her story and what she has gone through need to shove their filthy heads up their arse, yes you can do it!!!

Hope she finds the peace within hearself to continue to strive doing what she does best and enjoying life for what she wants it to be, breaking free of the pain, yet being wiser for having been through it!
