It should be a requirement to post on this board that you must provide your age, sex, race and education level and what sport you participated in if any.
46, M, C, post-grad, no sports at LSU, but played many sports, baseball, football, soccer, wrestling, and ultimate growing up.
I'm all for it. Go Mo! She will either make it or she won't. Nothing wrong with the try-out.

I can't believe any of you actually responded to him. He's on a similar level as tigrlee.

If she is one of the 2 or 3 best (whatever number they keep for fg kickers) she makes the team. If not, she dont.
This! If it was a male kicker trying to walk on there would be no discussion. It would just be if he could beat out a scholarship player than more power to him. Oh, by the way scholarships are renewed on a year to year basis. So if she is better than someone might be losing one and she might be gaining one.
All the comments about her looks and whether a guy can try out for a woman's team are totally irrelevant and pretty juvenile and stupid.

Not that simple.

Not true

I say let her try. If she makes it legitimately, then let her play - as long as a more deserving spot isn't given up for it. She has to know the risks. The only thing I'm worried about is a player from another team that tries to hurt her. Think about it - what if Coach Miles doesn't let her try out? The media circus would be crazy...
Oh, I'm a fan who has played a lot of sports. Does the rest of it really matter?

I agree with this 100%. If he were to not let her try-out then hes screwed. However, he can let her try out, evaluate her ability, and cut her or keep her. Gender only becomes a problem, if he doesnt allow her to try. I played college football, and I agree that its a male sport, but he pretty much HAS to let her try. The rest will take care of its self. Her perceived movtives are not relevant to her ability.

Look at all the distractions this team had last year and how it resulted in a shitty year from start to finish.

I was a kicker in HS, there is always a hit man from the other team focused on the kicker on kick offs.
Just saying

meh...much ado about not so much. Even if she makes the team, she may never play and, if she's capable, more power to her. I want to win and I don't particularly care whether we do that with just men or a bunch of men and a girl.
The real distractions would be not letting her try out. Talk about trouble.

Honest question: How is it that a female can be allowed to try-out for a male sport, but a male cant try out for a female sport. For example, does this now open the door for a male to try out for the volleyball team since the school does not provide a mens team?
I think I remember a story from years ago about a guy who insisted on playing field hockey with the girls because there was no men's team
Kicker is a position where a woman could be competitive I think - the locker room culture would be an issue tho (if something went wrong it could be ugly)

Is this seriously happening? I've largely ignored this story.
What a fricking circus this could turn into.
I'm not opposed to her because she's a woman, but she's not going beat out Alleman, right?
