i find it highly hypocritical that men cant have sports because of title ix, but women can play on the mens teams that prevent other mens team from existing. there is a huge flaw in the system if she's allowed to legally tryout.
Your point seems to have been lost in the discussion. Though there is no "women's football team", lots of men's sports (wrestling in most southern schools, for instance) gave way to women's sports under title IX. And, to add insult to injury, football practically pays for every other sport at LSU (save basketball, I believe).

Please, what is the "injury"?

If she's good enough to do something, let her do it.

Oh I agree, I doubt it's allowed too. But I think that's the rule that they use for football to allow women to join. So it seems like it would be illegal, or just highly hypocritical, for them to not allow men to join a field hockey team, since they allow women to join football teams.

White men have been so oppressed for far too long now, right? Is that your point?

the possibility that she could hit a FG while avoiding the fridge and stove is quite impressive
Posted on 3/6/12 at 1:01 pm to Mitchell613
so in order to fix suppression, you dont do away with it. you just reverse it?

Piss off, junior. It's a phrase. fricking Mitchell. And the real injury is getting rid of certain sports that people other than girls' parents want to see just to keep some sort of artificial "balance" in place. To attack the one remaining solely men's sport, that happens to support all of the other shitty sports (male and female) is an insult.
ETA: What are you doing in Lyon? And why did your parents name you Mitchell?

My point is no one wants equality in sports
What they think is equality is in fact reverse-discrimination

If she's better than our kickers on the team, then she is totally welcome. Odds are against it, but I am sure that 100% of the Rant would take a skinny non-tackling kid who could hit 50 yard field goals over the tough guy kicker who maxed out at 40.

and it's blatant. yet it appears that no one really has a problem with it. poo you wanna organize a march to the ponderosa?

If a guy wants to play soccer at LSU they cant join the women's soccer team, because there is a men's team.
This is not true, club teams don't count towards Title XI. The reason men can't try out for WOMENS Soccer is because there is a MENS Soccer league in the NCAA. Since LSU does not have one, they have a different sport to take it's place (Football, Basketball, Cross Country, whatever) Title XI isn't technically around to give women opportunities, it makes sure all athletes, regardless of sex have equal opportunities, based on the population break down of your undergrads, to play sports at the school. It just so happens that at the vast majority of schools mens sports are the ones that are affected bc they are more popular.
This is the reason the Soccer team has 298344143 scholarships to give out, because we have to keep it even as far as men/women schollies based on our undergrad pop.
It is also the reason mens Soccer in the SEC is not an NCAA sport, because then we would have to get rid of another sport, or add a womens sport, which would take away scholarships.

Suppression? I don't know what you're talking about.
LSU meets the Title IX requirements by the following:
"Full and effective accommodation of the interest and ability of underrepresented sex."
This part of the test is satisfied when an institution is meeting the interests and abilities of its female students even where there are disproportionately fewer females than males participating in sports.
In order to meet the standard, females must be given opportunities. Title IX compliance does not establish in an insecure male the right to try out for women's golf.

please dont respond to me and quote someone else's post and then disagree with it.

I haven't read this thread. It's too long. But if someone else has not already mentioned it. Beware of U. of Colorado. They let a girl on the team. They got a lot of positive press for being so open.
She came into an early season game ...on network TV... I saw it. She attempted an extra point that bounced off the center's butt. She was cut the next day. She sued for sex discrimination. Colo had to go to court or settle. Don't know how much money she was paid to just go away.

That's happened to me three times in this thread. There may be some glitch.

It's the kicker's fault that she was (allegedly) raped?

no people just have a habit of doing that. they'll copy the text they want to reply to. but then just go to the very last post in the thread and hit respond.
