Someone will have to explain to me the benefit of having someone like Crews start out the season in AA rather than the bigs.
You're going to put him out there anyway at 71 games in.

Here’s how BA graded out his skills:
Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 40 | Field: 35 | Arm: 40
That defines a below average player and not a big league bench guy.

Might as well let him get his timing down.
He finished last year at AA batting a brisk .208, with an unCrews-like .318 OBP, and a mere .278 SLG with a sample size of 85 plate appearances.
He needs to earn a promotion, not awarded it based on potential.

Pittsburgh – Paul Skenes (obviously #1, future HOF)

Washington – Dylan Crews (obviously #1, we’ll see him this year and eventually in the HOF)
While I expect both to have very successful careers. Calling them HOFs is a little premature. The Baseball HOF is the hardest of all the sports to get into. shite, Manny Ramirez and Barry Bonds still aren't even in it. And yeah they're not in because of the "steroid" issue but they are still two of the very best hitters ever and have not gotten in. So to call them future HOFs is a little premature.

How is Cade Doughty doing? I was hoping to see him in the bigs in the next couple years.
BA just came out with their list of prospects who just missed each team’s top 30 list and Doughty is the only member from Toronto.
Here’s what they had to say:
quote:
Scouting Report: A polished college player, Doughty was lauded for his balance of hitting, power and approach as an amateur, but that bottomed out in 2023. While Doughty’s surface-level stats are solid, his underlying data showcases how poor his plate skills were in 2023. He swung and missed at a high rate in and out of the zone and showed a fringy approach. Doughty gets the most out of his power due to good angles at contact, but his raw power is well below-average. Doughty spent 2023 alternating between second base and third base. A fringe-average runner, he has limited range and an average arm.
The Future: Doughty will look to recapture his bat-to-ball skills but is trending toward an up-and down replacement role.
Here’s how they reported his skill grades:
quote:
Scouting Grades Hit: 40 | Power: 30 | Run: 45 | Field: 40 | Arm: 50
