There is no “way” for the coach to scratch the run across. Every way he tries involves odds. Had he squeezed, and the runner was thrown out, you would bemoan the fact that CPM wasted the runner with zero outs.

He had the top of his order up, two opportunities to sacrifice, then a final chance to hit him in. That was his best odds.

And to the idiot who said they should have sent the runner, no coach would send him on such a shallow fly with no outs. That’s idiotic.

Thanks for the coaching insight, Coach.
So, why did you let Hess walk 3 batters before you pulled him?

Honestly? Bc we don’t have the comfort of hindsight.

Also bc I want to see what my ace can do. First SEC game. We’re winning. I’m not scared, nor should he. 100 pitches. He said he can pitch 150. Ok, let’s see.

Good pitches aren’t born, they are made.

I understand that, but the bot of 6th was extra long. He goes out and waljs not 1 but 3.
My antennas would be up after the 1st, not the 3rd, sorry.
I respect CPM as much as anyone, but I just wonder WTF he is thinking sometimes, if he is at all.

There were some terrible coaching decisions in this game, and we still got the W. Looking at this Missouri team, need to fill up the strike zone, and limit walks. Should sweep this team, if we play it smart. I think Maneri really wanted to limit relievers, save Beck for an extended relief, in next 2 games, and that is why he made the moves that almost cost the game today. He’s gambling for a sweep, and going long with Hess/Bush kept the bullpen with minimal damage...

I agree with you Penrod.

But what sticks in my craw is Maneiri's inability to understand the value of a bunt. It's the same thing every year. There is no reason why in the bottom of the 8th with only a 1 run lead and zero outs he should not have had Hal Hughes sacrifice over two runners into scoring position. It is Baseball 101. Hughes has clearly been a good bunter and has been successful in every bunt attempt I have seen so far this season. I assumed that was the reason Maneiri had him bunting earlier this season so as to pracrice it for times like last night.

I upvoted this post last night but we had 11 men left on base at the end of the game. Just need to get more runs in some way.
