yeah i don't think anybody honestly thinks he's an everydown DE, but he should be a good pass rusher on passing downs

Yep, Montgomery looked better IMO. Could have been schemes though, I really don't know.

I mean to say "NOT" a bad group

Ehhhhhhhh, when you get third and more than 8, defenses tend to be in subpackages, not their base. A 230 pound guy running up the field trying to sack the QB is the same as a 280 pound guy. If they run a draw, they both have technically run themselves out of the play.

personally, i dont like the 3/4, i like the 4/3 with a bigger DE on the strong side...like Tyson J....

Mingo will be great this year at filling Harry Coleman's blitzing role. He has the potential to be very disruptive to the QB on obvious passing downs, and as he matures the sky is the limit.

94 (I think Adams is the only 94?) actually looked pretty good out there when I noticed him on the field. He had a couple of plays where he looked as quick as Mingo off the snap.

Who was suppose to be blocking Mingo? Montgomery is the real deal and Adams looked fast, I think a couple of years down the road this group will be compared to the best in LSU history. With the new guys coming in and the ones committed as of now, LSU will not be inferior to any team they face at the line. NegaTigers get ready to cry because this team, this year, has the potential to be Great!

I don't care how good/bad the tackles are, if you can get that kind of consistent pressure in a spring game against OTs that are legit SEC athletes at that position, you can play DE in the SEC. If a guy like that is unblockable at DE in his first spring game, that means something.

True. Also realize that the Tigers will play several teams this year that have lesser OT's than they have. Mingo is a freak in the making IMO and much stronger than he looks.

I'll settle for someone as effective as Kirston Pittman was his freshman year. If Mingo is effective enough to force offenses to scheme for him, then he should be on the field as that puts limits on what the opponent can do, and creates opportunities for other LSU defenders.

Why does everyone want him to bulk up to 260 and be an everydown end? I think a much better plan is to get about 230ish and keep all the speed and just come in for passing downs. If we have the depth, keep Edwards on first and second downs and passing third downs, Mingo comes in to do one thing-rush the passer. Alem did well at this in 2008 (in addition to placekicking) but when we tried to make him the every down guy in 2009 he didn't do so well. Maybe he was gassed from playing every down. If we have the depth I don't see why Mingo couldn't be a one-dimensional guy. Let the pros mold him into an everydown player.

only concern is power run to his side when in game. might have to run some 3-4 or 4-4 packages with him

Rahim alem hasn't been able to defend the power run for two years. So if Mingo can actually pressure the QB, unlike Rahim Alem, than i see it as a vast improvement.

With solid DT play. He will be a freak this year. Watch. You can move him around to the weak side and he can cause havok on the QB with that speed. Remember Downs Nevis and Shepard did not play. That is the whole middle of the D
