For starters his son isn't exactly an exemplary person...
I think he left BR because his son had been kicked out of so many schools he was going to have to home school him.
Seriously, for the LSU coach's son to be kicked out of U-High, you know its got to be bad.

I'd bet they are both under a lot of stress. It's probably an inherent part of coaching big time, big money football. Heck, look at all the NFL coaches who used to get burnt out and have to step aside either for awhile or for good.
I think you could safely say that Les handles it in a better way, but I bet he feels the stress like any other coach. Heck, looking at that interview he did on the initial BCS standings show I could kind of see it. Saban just seems like he takes out his stress on those around him.
All that said, I don't think Saban's rant was all that far off base. He wants his team thinking about winning games, not things like Heismans or playing Tennessee in a reshsuffled SEC.

Just because Saban is a type A personality, he has problems?
quote:no. from what i've heard of people who have interacted with him, he's a miserable jerk. this corroborates what i've read through the media and what i see on the sidelines.
I think he is a great guy
it's funny how people praise his defense but forget about ark '02, iowa '04, va tech '02, not to mention any examples while at bama.

but Saban, over these past several years, to me, looks worn out and not enjoying his job.
Saban has looked this way at every coaching job he's been at.

I hate saban more than cancer but the guy is the best coach in college football and it isnt even debatable
Well, he is certainly a very successful college coach and I don't see that being debatable, but the very best is still up for grabs. imo
We will see how things play out and if he runs the table again, any debate will be of a short life.
For now, he has some had to explain L's for any coach who is put up as the best w/o debate. That may be tad nit-picking on my part, but it's there in my mind.
As I said, Nick can coach my team anytime.

That's kind of ignorant considering Saban has pretty much acted like that his whole career.
I disagree. Saban was never warm & cuddly but I think the NFL experience made him into even more of a hardass. It definitely made him more bitter towards the media, and that comes out in his pressers.
As for whoever is arguing that Miles isn't "intense" enough, I've found there are three things that people who don't know about football always think:
1) If the offense isn't doing well, the solution is to throw it deep more.
2) If the defense isn't doing well, the solution is to blitz more.
3) The head coach's most important jobs are to yell at players and yell at officials.
I don't know whether they actually believe that yelling makes people play better, or that it will help you get calls, but they definitely think it's important that the coach outwardly show that he's angry, if only as a sort of catharsis.

Still think the players respect Miles?
