I continue to believe that Miles figured out in the past two seasons that if he's hard on JJ, JJ pouts but that he responds to praise. He also has figured out that Lee plays his best when the starting job is just within reach. And I think he realizes that Mettenberger is the most gifted of the 3 from a QB standpoint but needs to be taken down a few pegs on the "I'm the savior" pedestal.

If I'm right, it may be frustrating to Rantards, but he's doing a damn good job.

(Of course, I'm also of the believe that all of the praise in the world is not going to do a lick of good for JJ. He's not a good QB and never will be)

Shouldn't miles have said from the get go that there was an open competition.

Competition breeds a higher level of play.

Surprised miles said JJ was the starter already.

There hasn't even been a pretense of competition this spring. JJ got virtually all the first team reps. I didn't witness a practice or scrimmage of any kind where anyone else got reps with the starters other than JJ (Lee got a few drives, perhaps).

not in everyone necessarily. Some people react differently in different situations

unless a miracle happens, no way JJ finishes the season as the starter. Even moderate imnprovement by JJ would still be subpar for a top ranked team.

I just hope the season isnt lost before Miles makes the change.

I am excited for this season, cant wait to see the defense, but it is depressing as hell to know that LSU hasnt had a QB in three years. and when we get one he isnt starting

Drew Brees of the Super Bowl season could have come in and miles would still play jj until we have 2 losses.

As expected, the oc still has no input into who plays qb
I agree with this. Expect more of the same as long as Miles is here. Hey.... remember the TENN loss last year? I do. Oh wait...

Another season of squandered opportunities and another appearance in a non-BCS bowl. Next up: recruiting takes a dip. We've proven we have the potential to be a national power (NC's) and it's time we take a hard look at the quality of wins and close calls to second tier teams.

By this time next year, the drought will extend to 20 BCS bowl possibilities involving 40 teams in 4 years. LSU will be MIA again - trust me.

Doesn't exist. He said JJ is "Unquestionably the starter".

Why do some people have a difficult time accepting the fact that JJ will be the starter vs Oregon regardless of competition?

I think everyone knows this, some just are afraid to admit it. I personally don't agree with it but I am not the coach. It's JJ's job to lose on the field.

I said this the other day. I know it's not true but that's the way I feel.

I expect JJ to start vs. Oregon because of experience. I'm just wondering if he will remain the starter if the offense struggles and the other guys are looking good in practice.

When we have a Drew Brees type QB sitting on the bench behind JJ then come talk.

Don't know. I would hope if the offense falters that he could be replaced. He will be the starter in game one, however. Will see if Miles has the drive to replace him when/if things go south.

Probably because it is frustrating as hell for most to see him hit wide open wide receivers at their feet and overthrow them. Then when he is taken out see him sulk and pout on the bench and still get put back in to do the same thing!

I am right there with you.

I was livid when JJ gave up that 80 yard touchdown right before half in the Arkie game.

I couldn't believe all of those long runs JJ gave up in the Auburn game. I mean come on all of those tackles he missed on Cam were ridiculous.
