If anything, these past 2 weeks proved that Miles is anything but untouchable. He came really, really close to being fired. Miles thought he was gone but got saved at the 12th hour.
Why would Miles think he is untouchable now? Because he got saved this time? That doesn't make any sense. Why would he think he would be saved again?
Why would he not think "if I don't fix this I'm definitely out next year"?
I don't think the sentiment is that he's "untouchable."
It's just that if LSU goes, let's say 9-3 next year, what has changed? The buyout is still in play, which from what I understand, is part of the political reasoning which saved Miles' job.
Now if LSU were to go 6-6 next year, I think that's a completely different scenario. However, I think most reasonable people foresee LSU doing no worse than 8-4, hence "untouchable"

so how is this untouchable?
He isnt. However, I'd think I'm gone next year so might as well spite my haters and not worry about being fired.
He is untouchable in the sense that he is the boss until next season is over. They can't make him do anything until it comes time to escort him out.

text book lnchbox right there.
dont even respond to that next response because before you know it, there will be 4 pages of him arguing about it, which ironically will have nothing to do with the OP
You're right, the man's ego has an effect on how untouchable he is. Totally right.

Les Miles knows he's coaching for his job in 2016. That's the furthest thing from untouchable I can imagine.
Unless LSU wins less than 5 games, Miles is going nowhere next year. The offense will be the same as always, the qb play will be awful and the clock management will still be atrocious. There is no way that LSU will risk another shite show like this next year. He is the coach until he decides to retire and LSU will continue to underachieve.

well yeah, right at this moment he is untouchable
I'm talking about the foreseeable future

Too late.
But the question you answered in the OP had to do with Miles feeling "untouchable". Feeling untouchable (ego) and being untouchable, while relatable, are two different things even though both are brought up by the OP.

1) F King Alexander will not let us go after a new coach. There is ZERO chance he is fired this year
This clown needs to go before he completely wrecks the LSU system.

It doesn't need a serious overhaul.
It needs improvement in the passing game and more rhythm and creativity, but that isn't a serious overhaul
Sure it doesn't. Being last in plays run in the country, being 111 in passing yards per game, being 106 in passing touchdowns, being bottom five in balance, those can be fixed with a few minor adjustments.

If there isn't improvement 2016 would be his last

Obvious issue.

A few less drops and penalties on big plays, and yes they absolutely can look better. Couple that with the O line not shitting the bed for 3 weeks in Nov, and our numbers would look very different.

So he was told by Alleva to fix the offense. Les already said he is not. So what is Alleva gonna do, fire him?

He is untouchable.

Because basically the three people higher than his boss on the totem pole came out in his favor in a power struggle. Listen to his post game. He basically spiked the football on Alleva's sack. Because F'ing Alexander wants his poormouth narrative, he undercut the only practical check on Miles. The guy that was almost fired for offensive ineptitude then came out and said that he doesn't see the need for an overhaul.
If he couldn't be fired this year because asking donors for money makes it seem like the University isn't poor, why will that be different next year? You think 15 mill is different than 12?
Miles' retention does not leave him in a stronger position than he was in before Alleva and co made a move on him. I mean he technically won the struggle, but only just. It left him weakened and likely on a short leash. I still hold out that if the school could have reached a deal with Jimbo, the bowl game would be Miles' last. This wasn't some glowing endorsement of him. It was a last-second realization that paying him nearly $2M in buyout a year on top of damn near $7M wasn't going to happen--so Jimbo wasn't going to happen. And without s homerun hire the school's leadership would have been damned foolish to fire Miles. What if the next guy went bust? What kind of shite storm would that create. And anyone we'd want to bring here is going to demand, at minimum, $1M more per year than Miles is currently being paid. There are a lot of reasons he's still here that have nothing to do with him being revered as some God by the fans or anything else as silly as that. Without a replacement, it was the right move.
