If this is true then why are you having to guess at what he is trying to say? If he was brutally honest wouldn’t he have said Dugas can only make the routine plays? Because that’s what you said he meant.
Also have you made it out to any scrimmages yet this season? When is the last time you saw Dugas play any position on the infield that you are basing your conclusions off of?

Lester has talked himself into believing that Jay was sending the message to Dugas through the media that he can only make routine plays. And that’s very much something a coach like Jay would do. Lester used to be a better troll than this.

I dont think Johnson ever sets out to "insult" anyone. That's kind of silly. But he is brutally honest for the most part, and absolutely will send messages through the media.

There is no need to guess, though you genuinely seemed confused by his statement.
Every infielder should be expected to be great at making routing plays. That is the most rudimentary part of playing defense.
If Johnson though Dugas was a good defender, he would have simply said it. That is how Jay Johnson works.
