Why would they not wait a little longer to let his original handler get here? It would have only been a couple of days according to the article.

Literally started crying just now watching the video. Gonna miss this Mike. First one I've really known

At the recent press conference by Dr. Baker, he stated that they would not let Mike suffer.
Honestly, I don't think his original handler, Steve Cotner, would have wanted them to keep Mike alive and in pain just so he could say goodbye.
This whole situation with what has happened to Mike VI is just heartbreaking.

Mike IV reigned when I started at LSU. I remember (hopefully with the right details) when Mike V was introduced. It was halftime at a basketball game vs. Bama. He was a cute, baby tiger. They gave him a stuffed elephant and he ripped it to shreds. The place went nuts.
Mike VI's search was the first I'd read about. You couldn't just hop on a message board in 1990 and hear about Mike V. My main source of news during that search was the Daily Reveille!
Mike VI's reign was too short. RIP, Mike!

I never brought my kids to see him. The wife and I talked about it for years but we never made it. RIP Mike

I can't help but shed tears over this beautiful, wonderful animal leaving us so soon. I followed when we got him, and he was always so playful and energetic when we came to see him. My daughter always sent pictures of him when she went by on her way to class. You were a wonderful member of the LSU family, Mike / Roscoe, and loved by all. Rest in peace. We will miss you.

I've taken mike for granted for many years. We are lucky to have a live mascot. RIP big fella.

Damn.. them memorial videos did it to me. I haven't cried in like 3 years and the that first video posted had tears rolling down my face. Then I get to the next video that was posted and it waterworks all over again.
I remember me and a friend drove down to New Orleans about 3 years ago. He stayed in New Orleans when I left so I had to make the trip back to Shreveport by myself. I was hungover and was just having a bad day. Well, I decided about 10 minutes out of NOLA that I was gonna stop and see Mike for the first time. When I got to his habitat I was the only person there for some reason and Mike gave me his full attention. I sat there for an hour watching ole Mike. It made my day. I saw him 4 more times after that.
RIP big guy. I love ya
