Someone was looking for this image a while back. I saw this photo at Ralph & Kacoo's today. I believe this was around 80-83 when Mark Jeffers was the mascot. No one has else has approached the success he had as Mike.

Also, note the old school ESPN logo.

A photo of Mike in this attire was picked up by the wire services and was printed in papers all over the country.

It also led to some rule that prohibits a school's mascot from making fun of referees.

That I believe is a guy named Mark Jeffers. He in was CRAZY as Mike the Tiger. Someone who all after him needs to live up to.
I see you already pointed this out. You are correct on Mark.

I loved them the first time,

and after a day of shopping with my teenager, I'm realizing just how much of the 80's is coming back!

Great picture, and I hope and pray that LSU basketball is on its way back to that kind of interest!!

Isn't it fun to have them laugh at your old pics, only to be FORCED to follow the crowd later in life. I call it payback by retro.

Good memory lucky. They used to show that for years in the intro to Dale Brown's t.v. show and if I'm not mistaken on the SEC game of the week as well.

It lived on for years after that...into the 90's.

Yes. I have new leverage with my daughter, because over a year ago, I told her that she would be wanting superskinny tapered jeans, and she was offended!

Now, after a day of her begging me for the damn things at the Galleria yesterday, I told her that from now on, when I am right and she's wrong, my "code word" is going to be: "straight-legged jeans" to end any argument!

Code words serve to get the new message across AND rub it in for doubting you.

Didn't sometimes when he'd come stumbling out dressed like that the band would play the song, "Three Blind Mice." Am I imagining that I remembered that?

Mark Jeffers was the very best Mike the Tiger. Really funny guy.

Coming back from the horrible game against Tulane in the dome in 1981, Mark had stored some cheap arse wine on the bus (I think it was called Chatanooga Express) to drink on the way back to BR if we lost. Well, he started drinking it and someone asked him what it tasted like. He said "Kool-Aid with a lot of Comet in it." He drank that whole bottle.
