I didn't realize LSU was that small this year. Hope it doesn't come back to hurt.
Yeah, it's going to hurt lol. For them to repeat the kind of success they had last year, they are going to have to be deadly from 3 IMO.. I'm banking on both Days and Emmit to be able to contribute from 3, could put a lot of pressure on opposing defenses if they're consistent

Yep. To be successful I expect us to have to shoot well from outside like auburn. This will inevitably lead to streaky segments when our shooters are cold. Unlike last year when the plan was get it on the glass and rebound and put back. Different year, still can be good.

Looking back to Wade’s VCU teams he took to the big dance, his teams were small with max height of 6’9”. I think this is the type of team he knows how to coach and may feel more comfortable with this style.

Yep. He already mentioned in recent press conf. that he was more familiar with coaching this style of team than last years group. So that is at least something. To make it work though, this year's LSU team has to be MUCH better on defense. Though undersized, this year's VCU team is a terrific defensive team.

The bigs last year allowed LSU to be able to get away with some things they won't be able to get away with this season. If the perimeter defense broke down there was still enough size inside to help defend the basket. On offense, even a bad shot could be a good shot for LSU because they were just so damn good on the offensive glass. Couple that with a PG in Waters who could create a good look out of nothing, and LSU had a big margin for error. They don't really have that this season.

We should be able to run and gun more this year, neutralizing the opponents height advantage.

The potential advantage is without the bigs there is less congestion in the lane and the floor opens up with driving lanes. Smart and Mays are great "slashers". Matthews and Taylor could be very good in that dept as well. I could be wrong, but I suspect we are going to see a bit more like the Kentucky style of play as opposed to last years pick and roll centric offense which was ABSOLUTELY the right thing to do with Waters at PG and Reid at PF

I’d like to know more about Courtese Cooper. What’s the deal on him? Is he a decent player or just there to for numbers?

See my write up in 2nd post now, my opinion is he will be a 5-10 minute a game player mostly. He can provide short spurts of athletic play and some blocks but dont expect much more.

SG (6'3, 190) SO. Parker Edwards is a walk on transfer from Southeastern Louisiana who was on scholarship there I believe. Because he walked on here he can play immediately I think. He is best known for lighting us up from 3 in our first game from last year against Southeastern Louisiana, if Edwards is allowed to play, dont expect to see him in anything but blowout situations.

Will never stop hitting me how much height we’ll be giving up this season.

We really should’ve been fighting hard for some other options at Center aside from N’Faly Dante

Very good write up.

I do think that Manning may keep the starting role instead of Taylor.

In the recent Boot Up podcast, Wade mentioned that Manning is his best on ball defender. He would likely guard many of the best opposing team ball handlers during the year. He did a great job on his man in La. Tech game. Manning is athletic, has great affinity for the mental side of the game, a hard worker, and a good offensive player.

Taylor is still 95% from his off season foot surgery. He may not be able to wrest the starting spot from Manning, but time will tell.

Hes not even eligible at Oregon either right now.

Unfortunately under the scrutiny we were under options just got super limited.

Agree with you on Manning, hes more basketball savvy than Taylor, but I know Wade also really likes Taylor and thinks hes improved as a basketball player.

PF (6'9, 235) FR. Trendon Watford is basically the replacement for Naz from last year. He's just a tad shorter but will fill a somewhat similar role. He can shoot the 3, he can play down low (better than Naz I would say), he can even handle the ball some. You'll see why he was a 5-star early on, and he gets a big test in game 1 against Mattos who definitely has the size advantage on him. I would expect him to make Mattos guard him all over the court and not just the low block, Wade will spread the floor. In the end I expect a pretty big season from Watford, maybe even bigger than Naz from last year, but that's the bar I'm setting.
Folks watching or listening to the LT game said Watford didn't even attempt to play down low.

The fact that he only played 1 minute, in garbage time, in an exhibition game and his general lack of mentions when Wade talks about the team leads me to believe he won't be part of the rotation.

Fwiw, Wade did said he did a poor job not playing Cooper more in the exhibition on Cody Worsham's podcast.

I'm not expecting much more than being a game dependent guy, but we will probably need him to provide something against some of the SEC teams.

If the offense is more what Coach Wade is accustomed to with quicker players, I can see them surpassing 90 points in this game easily having had time to gel together on the Spain trip.
