when chavis' D basically completely relies on the front four to get pressure its inexcusable to go a class without signing 3-4 guys minimum.

When a 255lb DE is going to get more playing time at DT...we have a problem. All four of the DTs from 2013 are not playing well or at all. CL is the best of them, but he is not doing anything special and probably could have used a red shirt year. QT is hurt again. Ego was good last year and Freak wasn't bad but they got worn down by having to play 80% of the snaps. Chief never did that before even with Brockers and Logan. Hell NFL guys don't play that many.

Davin has done fairly well as a true and the two Treys situation is weird, and now one of three RS FR DTs has been hurt in an accident.

The DEs are ok, yes we have had better, but overall the DL is not looking good.

We give up almost 600 yards last week. Last year State gained 500 yards. Georgia got 500 last year. Old Miss got 500. Alabama got 400. Arkansas got almost 400.

When will this stupid obsession with the QB or offense stop since the defense is giving up yards at an alarming rate to SEC teams and has been since 2011?

No DT's in 2012. Thomas, Mickey and Freak in 2011. My issue is all the guys in 2013. Patterson, Bain, Gilmore, Bower, Neal, Herron, LaCouture, etc. Now I understand Patterson, Bower and Neal are probably DE, but the others are big and no reason they should not be playing.

All SEC Offenses need to score 40 points a game man. The defense is fine. If you hold someone to 30 something points and score 40 you win. That is how it is in the SEC now. Its not the 2000's where you can win a game 9-6. Its all offense. The offensive styles are so prolific now, no defense is going to completely shut down a team (accept if you play Vandy.) Look at the scores off all the SEC v SEC games thus far. Offense averages over 40. Defense averages like 30.

This is how it is. I think the players played flat and like crap on offense. They will turn it around. If they score 40 points a game, the defense can play like they did against MSU all season.

It seems most of those guys are not living up to their rating coming out of HS though.

DL/OL is the hardest positions to predict from HS to college.

Given that the same people watching these players in practice are the same people that view Welter and Martin not only as starters but worthy of playing the vast majority of the game despite obviously better backups has be wondering if the DTs that we have not seen are actually bad at all. We seem to put way too much emphasis on practice. If you are a practice warrior and that cannot translate onto the field on gameday then what good did it do?

That game was literally less than 3 years ago.

Losing two DTYs who didn't really have a money year is going to be the biggest problem with this year's roster.

Those two players do not have my respect in the least. I will never rag on an early departure who's stock is so high that staying another year could hurt it. I will, however, rag on these two guys who knew that they would be needed this year. They would have improved their stock as well.

That's just how I see it. We would have never lost that game with one of those guys in the middle and we would be a serious NC contender wityh both.

Dick what round did Ego go in? He was here four years. I understand your comment on Johnson more..three years and not drafted.

y point with those two is simply that if they would have been on the field against MSU then LSU would not have lost. There is no way in hell that MSU would have gashed us like they did with those stupid big holes up the middle.

I know that they weren't the on the upper level of DT talent that we have had at LSU but I believe that either one of them on the field the other night would have seriously cut down on MSU's ground stats.

When was the last time we shut out two teams in a row. Even cupcakes. Past years our defense would give up double digits to crappy teams. We handled Wisconsin after some adjustments. One bad game and all hell is wrong with the defense. This defense will be better than last years. Book it.

My point is what is going on in the SEC recently - its about scoring not shutting down offenses. Look at eh frickin scores of all the SEC v. SEC games thus far this year.

34-29
52-28
38-35
48-34
36-30
42-21
45-21
41-3

A lot of elite defenses out there

One serious puzzle is trying to build a defense for spread teams while also playing big/strong power teams........hard to have it both ways
