Is it safe to say that Maurice Hampton made the wrong decision to turn down not going pro?

Perhaps he made a bad decision to try and play both sports.

He made an even worse decision to opt out of both.

His number was 1.8 and he turned that down.

His mistake was not getting through this season, then sitting down and evaluating what his best options were for his last 2 years while he worked toward a degree.

With a coach whose forte is player development why not comeback. He’s not committed to any school. So the option is there.

To me if he thought his future was in baseball then he should have either taken the money out of high school or not played football in college. He was never going to get that amount of money when he was draft eligible again focusing on baseball for only half a year.

Most MLB organizations don’t draft college prospects in the first round based on raw talent alone. They want guys that will be in the majors in 1-2 years. They will draft players high school players based strictly on raw talent and potential because they know they will be in their organization for 5-6 years before getting called up.
