Nice catch. Obviously, he was still dating "16" on paperwork. For some reason I'm not surprised no one at LSU caught the mistake.

So does that save us one year on the buyout total?

Lot of stupidity in this thread. LSU is not in a good position to negotiate anything under these terms. And it sounds like Canada is listening to his attorney and playing his cards perfectly. And, no, the date error is clerical in nature and will be disregarded entirely. LSU's going to have to pay Canada under this contract and it didn't have to be this way. Bebe's immaturity and impulsiveness will be costly.

Yeah you're a nitwit.

You could very well be right, but no one knows the details of any potential issues or problems that have occurred.

There could be some issues that, while they may not invalidate the contract entirely, they may be a bit embarrassing to Canada. For that reason, he may accept a lower buyout.

Of, he just wants a lump sum rather than fight about it.

Good contractual analysis, Shooter.
Do you give legal advice to the public?

actually not- I am sure the date that matters is the notarized date-

Notarized date has nothing to do with a contract date

Meh. You let a scrivener's error like that go.

No, that means he is in year two of his contract. Way less buyout.

with the buyouts we pay coaches we could hire an entire football team staff.

got to get some longevity with our coaches

University X to Canada: we will pay you 5 dollars for the next 2 years and then 1 million the following year.

Bama did something similar with Joey Freshwater. Once the USC money dried up they ponied up 900K a year.

That is so stupid. Did we pay him $1.5 million in 2016, genius? No.
Stop grabbing at straws. You’re embarrassing yourself.

Canada is in the driver's seat on whether or not he wants to lower the buyout.

If Canada settles for less than $3m it is more likely due to him not wanting to have the terms of the buyout severely shape the next phase of his career. It's a lot of money..

Sure, he could put in minimum effort and not find anything good, and collect the $3m but more than likely what will happen is that he will get another job and LSU will pickup the difference.

LSU may see it as an opportunity to hedge their bets (reduce max liability) and give him less money with no strings attached.

So it appears that someone at LSU is realizing they are getting played. And they don't have over $6M+ to pay for OCs over the next 2 years

At this point they have no cause to fire Canada. They effed up letting him stay on, if they were planning to fire him whenever X happened.

Canada is now saying and doing all the right things. His agent wants his $3M paid. And the other OCs don't like being lowballed to come to LSU because of it. So to get a quality OC, LSU is looking at over $1M+ per. Which means they will owe Canada $3M, $1.3M they still owe Cam (plus what they owe Miles), AND the money they are not getting back from the Chief with the settlement of that lawsuit

They are just realizing that the position will cost more than head coach O next year @ $4M for Cam, Canada, and cheap bastard X to run the offense. Expect a no confidence vote on that plan from F**King

How do we know he's fired? We know he's leaving, but how do we know he's fired? He could be leaving on his own accord after the bowl game. People do resign. Canada did it last year at Pitt.

Is there a link saying he's fired or terminated? Really asking.

Coach speak. If he came out and said nothing but negative stuff, no one would want to hire him. Anyone that wanted to further their career would do the same.

He specifically said today that he wants to be back at LSU next year. And that hes excited about the offensive potential for next year. But on Monday he just ups and quits?

He also said that he hasn't applied for any head coaching positions. So Ponamsky started all that BS

If he leaves, it wont be because hes kissing $3M goodbye. Hes taking all of it with him

I know he did, however he did say "I would like to be back" so for him to not deny he's not returning is telling. That goes back to what I just said. If he comes out and says a bunch of negative stuff about the staff he was on, it wouldn't help him in the future as an OC somewhere else or possibly even a HC position. This isn't his last stop as an OC or something more. I guarantee you that. Again, it's nothing personal against the man. I honestly think he would like to be a HC somewhere.

This thing has been going on for a while now. It sure didn't all go down this past Monday.
