Worthless trivia from the tv broadcast last night: Rittiner and Katz are good friends, both freshman, both went to Jesuit in N. O., their families are friends, and they are both dating twin sisters. (Sorry, no pics.)

Mason Katz - inside joke. We talked about him and the great hit he made the whole trip back from the Wally P. game.

The kid was born to wear purple.

Katz and Bestoff??? It wasn't that long ago was it? The purple sign, the purple labels.

He's got to be related.

Looking good!

Mason Katz, of course, is from Jesuit High School. What's in a name? And who cares? A few years ago, there was a priest there named Fr. Cohen. The students called him "The Rabbi."

I think one of the stories about the bottom of the 12th Wednesday night is Coach Maineri's ability to put a young player in at just the right time to see him man-up and move his game to the next level. He puts players into situations where he asks them to define themselves as players. And he knows just when to do it. Whoever was at that game watched a freshman, who had only nine prior at bats, take a great leap in confidence and stature as a player. This is one of Maineri's great talents as a coach.

And to his credit, Mason Katz answered the call.

played with mason in high school, he played catcher, outfield, second, third, and a little first...basically he can play anywhere, but i dont think he has the arm for third...his dad feels second is his best position
