The team should have been WAY less aggressive. They were swinging away against Plutko, and should have made him earn it. Pisses me off to see good hitters crack balls to the wall, and bad hitters poke away looking for mistakes. That is not baseball to me, and if always played that way would kill interest in the game. The bats and ball parks are ruining the fun, and only creating stress and vulnerability for good teams.

Wrong! U don't swing Raphe on that 2-0
I have no problem with Raph swinging on a 2-0 pitch.
He should have been looking for something to drive. The fact that he grounded out weakly on a 2-0 pitch is a mistake on Raph's part...not Mainieri.

Raph wasn't seeing it or at least not swinging it with confidence all night. Coach Mainieri should have known to bunt him and hope for one more hit in 2 batters. It was coaching. Hoping for something great is noble, but knowing your players is better. Raph needed to bunt.

Yep put to loyal to assistants. He is les miles of baseball. Got Dunn but sticks with fuktard Sanchez. Les stuck with crouton then stud. Pm needs to hire a cam.

yep, Raph rolled over balls all night. Swinging 2-0 was ridiculous

Frick the haters, this team and this coach can win four in a row with our backs to the wall. I wouldn't want any other coach

Javy recruited his coaching limitations away...or so he probably thought.
But tonight he ran into a pitching staff that had a plan and took advantage of our hitting and the ballpark's dimensions.
So when our hitters began playing into their hands, and they continued to pound the high fastball...our one Achilles' tendon was exposed: Our hitters never adjusted and laid off the high fastball.
We never worked the count and forced UCLA to pitch the ball in the strike zone. We didn't do it because:
1.) Our players are stubborn and resistant to coaching.
2.) Our players weren't coached properly.
I'll leave it to the Rant to answer the questions themselves.

So u r happy with Sanchez? This is just like offense in football. We have the best season ever then shite the bed in the ship.

Should have told his players after the first 2 trips through the lineup to only swing at pitches low and in the zone. If they pop to the wall I'm Ok, but to hit so many dinky pops was torture... college baseball now is like watching water torture.

Agreed. Zero coaching adjustments to our approach. We just kept beating our heads into a wall, hoping our skulls were hard enough to break it...

its one game you people over react to much. UCLA has an amazing staff and can go toe to toe with anyone in the country.

He shoulda called the weak-side option on that 2-0 pitch.

compare LSU baseball hitting to LSU football offense.
Its to late for me to compare rankings
but LSU baseball was #2 in hitting this year. UCLA pitched their ace against us and shut us down and pitched their best two guys out of the bulpen. Baseball is a tough sport and every team in Omaha is the best of the best no flukes in omaha. Their pitching shut down our bats and our defense gave them two runs.
Negatigers are annoying at times they only think LSU is the one to blame for losses when it could be that the other team played a good game.

I've watched this team for more than one game...but thanks for the drive by commentary.
The approach wasn't adjusted. There's no denying that. We had less than a half dozen hits and their pitcher went 7 full and had only two strikeouts. Their approach pitching was superior than our approach hitting.
We have three All-American hitters and five All-SEC hitters. Yes, I agree, sometimes that's baseball. But this happens routinely. On big stages.
There's no denying the issue isn't talent. It's not ability. But if you disagree, then more power to you...we obviously see things differently.

I was at the game so I can't really tell about adjustments where the ball was and everything. I just know you had their ace going against us. I'm not going to criticize the coaching for getting us to omaha and being beat by a good team. Errors are not on coaching, hitting into a DP is not on coaching (PM hates bunting and I think his thought is maybe we can get them our of positon by hitting on a 2-0 count it was a risk on one of the best closers in the country)
CPM is a great coach, if he wasn't we wouldn't be here we would have fallen like we did for two years and it would have turned into a 5+ year fall and we would be horrible, but CPM turned this team around after a 2 year fluke and made them the best team in the country.
oh fire Javi.
