Not a chance. This years team is stacked and not indicative of the job he will have to do next year with much less experienced players and a depleted recruiting class due to the coaching change.

He should get a shot, but it must be an open competition with available elite coaching candidates.

Any thread beginning with "hear me out" is a bad idea.

I'm all for giving CEO a fair shot, but that fair shot includes a really critical evaluation at the end of the year (to have enough data to evaluate).

The biggest problem I see with what you're proposing is that LSU has damn near backed ourselves into a corner with this hiring. That is due to the non-firing fiasco last year. We have, a minimum, a 2-way split on the administrative side. Firing Miles now and having a specifically named interim when interview time comes around bowl time is the only way really good coaches, who require persuading, can have faith that they are indeed interviewing for an open position.

Yes, it's a stretch of the facts to take that position. But it will likely be used in negotiations.

LSU is determined to explore those options. They have to. We didn't fire a sub-.500 coach, warm bodies will only bring out more pitchforks and torches.

This stupid thread keeps getting my attention for some reason..

quote:

It will help recruiting. Who will commit not knowing who will be LSU's HC next year? We've already lost Moses. Do you think he might have stayed with LSU if he knew Coach "O" will be here next year?

The new coach will be here with plenty of time to shore up the recruiting class. It happens all the time when new coaches get hired. Depending on the new coach, he might finish out stronger than O would. Finding the right coach is more important than 1 recruiting class.

quote:

It will stabilize the coaching staff! Remember we have a great staff, most of whom are excellent recruiters. A new HC will likely bring in his own assistants, creating even more uncertainty in 2017!
when you fire a coach you lose most of the current staff. That's just how it works. Nobody is irreplaceable and and we might actually improve some spots with a new staff.

quote:

A new HC is always a major risk.

I would say a failed coach O is way more risky than an NC winning coach in jimbo.

quote:

Does he fit the Louisiana culture? Will the players assimilate to the coaching methods? Will he maintain the great "family" atmosphere which exists at LSU? Will any of the current LSU assistants want to work under a new regime? Are we going to become an "air raid" team with no defense like teams in the Big 12?

Hire a winner. The rest will fall into place.

I'm not even messing with the rest of your conjecture. It boils down to him being a cajun, and y'all can't see that he is much less proven a coach as anybody on our list. Recruiting takes a back seat to finding the right guy.

While the chances are not great, this reasoning is much more sound than the OP.

I just can't get over how many fans are ready to crown O. It started out that they wanted the season to play out, but felt confident that he would win the job.

Now that the first win is out of the way, hire him now! Im sure there are 5 teams out there ready to scoop him up if we don't hurry!

Coach O had some insight on the Florida situation:

Coach Eaux is the Chuck Norris of football. He once played a game in a hurricane, and beat the other team and scared the hurricane away!

I am on the bandwagon of "let the sauce cook" in cajun terms, and let's see how it turns out. It should be obvious in the next four or five games if "the sauce is gonna be good", or not.
