The thing I have a hard time understanding is why schools with more (or comparable) prestige, money and resources than LSU (Notre Dame, Auburn, USC, Texas, Florida, Ohio State) didn't make a run at Miles?

He's clearly the most successful coach in the most difficult conference in football over the last 10 years. The numbers clearly speak for themselves.

Texas is a top job
UF is a top job, yet no one is beating down the door to get there.

fricking Tards need to think before talking shite.

Oh and both are better jobs than LSU .

Who do you propose we have a chance at getting if and when a coaching change is made?

Name the hindsight 5 best hires at football programs in the last 5-6 years.

Were they ALL or even most "big names" when they were hired?

Hell, people weren't tripping over themselves to hire Saban or Miles before they were hired at LSU. Oh, they may have been on the list of possibles, but isn't like the nation all blew a gasket with envy when we hired them.

LSU opens up, there will be plenty of options wanting the job. It's silly to deny it. This ain't University of Texas.

You're right. University of Texas is the best job in the country

Oklahoma Stat Sucked before Les Miles was there. He 3 times as many winning season in 4 years than OSU had since Barry Sanders left in 1989.

He also had OSU best season since 1989.

Les wen 24-14 in his last three years that.

the coach before him wen 13-20 in the the three years become he got there.

OSU you sucked, that Aint no pumper lie.

I'd suggest Todd Graham or Mark Hudspeth over either of these guys...also Hugh Freeze could be a name that enters the fold if the unforeseeable ever happened.

When Miles' name was brought up to succeed Saban, people laughed.

That is the flaw of that excuse. Any name you bring up, people laugh in the same way.

All of those would be lateral moves.

Notre Dame sucks

Auburn is a lateral move
USC is a lateral move
Texas is a Lateral move, and had Mack Brown till last year
Florida is a lateral move
Ohio state had a good coach, and then Urban Meyers. I am not gonna pretend Les is better than Urban, but at least he doesn't retire when he gets heartburn.

Um. I'm pretty on record as unhappy with Miles but, 30-38 most certainly is vastly different than 28-21.

Hell, the former is a 44% winning percentage and the latter is 57%.

No, I mean, 13% is pretty vastly different in football.

Todd Graham

I've seen his name mentioned on the SEC Rant for the UF job.

I can't make up my mind on him; ASU has really shite the bed the last couple of seasons once they get some national attention on them. The way he has left jobs in the past has also been criticized.

They all went after hires they could get

USC- Sarkisian (not the best coach in college football by any means)
Texas- Charlie Strong- not the best coach but a hot young name
Notre Dame- Brian Kelley - coached fricking Cincinnati

Les was never going to go to Auburn or Florida, so they were never going to look.

Texas Looked at Saban, Notre Dame looked at Saban. Ohio State Had Urban Fall in their lap.

But really they all went with the coach that wasn't intrenched at a program.

Weakened Texas, who is losing recruits left and right to now formidable A&M (at least in a recruiting sense)

is a lateral move to a program you have built over 9 years.

when you are 61 you don't leave you life's work to go pick up someones mess.

It's silly to say LSU is a more appealing job than Texas. Florida and Texas are the top 2 jobs in the country.

so you say. in many respects, LSU is a better job than Tejas and without question Florida.

BUT, we split hairs. All three of those schools and about 10 others are all about equal as far as appealing jobs. the PROBLEM is timing and the situations. at any given time, one must consider contract buy outs, family situations, state of the program, etc. to determine what job is appealing. the notion that ANY SCHOOL can take their pick is fictional. tejas had lots of turn downs. hell, remember how mamy times bama got turned down? only because saban wanted back into college coaching did they get their man and that was after making him the highest paid in the country.
