Ross have been dreadful.
I give him a pass, he is playing the toughest position on the field and is developing into a good defensive catcher, he has two PB the entire season and stays in front of a lot of pitches out of the zone/in the dirt. His hitting leaves something to be desired, but most seasons if you have a good hitting lineup a freshman catcher playing good defense stays in. Even if the bats are taking 20 points off players' averages the current production stinks, and its obvious better players aren't riding the pine. Don't know if there are internal issues on the team or not, but have never seen so many guys go down quietly at the plate. Losing sucks, they can't be having fun.
Who can really be surprised at the pitching numbers starting two true freshmen and a senior who was a limited starter prior to this season, and are throwing to a freshman catcher. Other than Ott, where is the SEC experience in the bullpen? If the starters were getting consistent run support it wouldn't be do or die every inning, either.

IF CPM is so fricking honest where is he throwing his two patheric assistants under the fricking bus?

he wasn't asked that question

We need to upgrade (players), there's no question about that. When asked if he planned in changes in his coaches staff, Mainiri declined to comment.
You must have read a different article than I did.

So he thought they were good at the beginning of the year? He misjudged his perceived talent.....don't get the problem there. He's admitted the mistake.

did i miss something? he was asked about the talent level, competency, and/or his satisfaction with his coaching staff?
i read he was asked about coaching changes. did he comment on player changes?
i guess we did read different articles or at least different comprehension of the same article.

This situation comes down to the fact that LSU rantards who are ALREADY foaming at the mouth to get rid of PM are taking this comment and running with it. THAT, is where this issue lies.

Right, I see how the two are totally different.

How did these guys go from "electric," "obscene," "Ranaudo-ish," to talentless clowns in just a few months. I wonder what it could be?
Just a guess, but I doubt that Mainieri's talent deficiency quote was in reference to Gausman, Jones, Eades, or Rhymes. All 4 have performed well for first year players. So I think those quotes may bear out to be accurate as their careers progress.
The talent deficiency quote (and this is just a guess based on their performance) may refer to Watkins, Dozar, Hanover, and Edward.

I can tell you right now had those guys showed up, and been unable to be drafted until they are a Junior or over 21 years old, this would be a much different season. It happened 2 years in a row.

I'm not, just point out the obvious since everyone seems to be missing that point.
It's not the reason for the decline...it's an excuse for the decline. There's a difference.

Right, I see how the two are totally different
here we go,
LSU Coach Paul Mainieri agreed Monday that the Tigers' struggles this season are partly due to a dropoff in talent for the program, which won a national championship two seasons ago.
the question was do you believe the struggles this season are due to a drop off in talent?
the answer,
"I hate to talk about it before the season is over but quite frankly, yes," Mainieri said to a gathering of media in his office Monday. "I think we don't have the personnel we've become accustomed to the last couple of years. We need to upgrade, there's no question about that.
When asked if he planned in changes in his coaches staff, Mainiri declined to comment. He did say, as most coaches do after poor seasons, that "every aspect of the program will be re-evaluated," including himself.
the question is, do you plan on making changes to the coaching staff?
now, maybe i'm wrong here but they appear to me to be two different questions.
Had they asked do you agree the struggles of the season is PARTLY due to coaching? i bet you he would have answered yes. however, THAT QUESTION WAS NOT ASKED!

quote:what?
Oh I see, so Louis Coleman who is now pitching in the major leagues and Anthony Renaudo who was drafted in the first rounds were just nobody's...
that has nothing to do with HS draft picks
the point remains that this is nothing new....virtually every year LSU deals with losing recruits to the draft (regardless of what current players leave the team that year)
LSU seemed to overcome this deficit in years past, why not this year?
