Florida coach is coach of the year

From the above article:
Florida's ability to recruit a deep pitching staff has made it easier for the coaches to protect their arms, which in turn attracts more elite arms. The most notable, of course, belongs to righthander Karsten Whitson, who opted to attend Florida rather than sign with the Padres as the No. 9 overall pick last year.

O'Sullivan never allowed Whitson to throw more than 92 pitches in a game this season, and never extended him beyond 61/3 innings. When it came time for O'Sullivan to decide whether to bring ace Hudson Randall back on five days' rest for Florida's third CWS game, the coach decided to go with lefthander Alex Panteliodis instead, in part because he was not going to start Whitson on short rest the following day, if necessary.

"We were not going to throw him on four days' rest," O'Sullivan said. "We hadn't done that all year long, and we weren't going to put that pressure on him. And the fact of the matter is if we were going to get to this point, some other guys needed to contribute. So it's a fine line. But I think it all starts at recruiting, to be quite honest with you. If you recruit pitching depth, it gives you other options."

In comparison, Gausman and Mccune both went over 120 pitches numerous times.. Mccune is not even throwing this summer in order to rest. PM needs to read this and understand that this is how Florida gets 1st rounders to come to school. One game isnt worth a players arm and career..my hope is that Dunn, given his background with managing pitchers in the majors and minors, that LSU will be kinder to pitchers arms, the TJ surgeries will go down, and more top pitchers will choose college instead of pro ball.

This is about where the draftees "should have gone" based on talent alone. (Note, these were rough projections)

Story-Rd 1-2 1A
Eierman-Rd 1-2 3
Cave-Rd 2-6 6
Nola-Rd 4-8 22
Goody-Rd 6-15 22
Glenn-Rd 8-15 15
Baranik-Rd 10-25 41
Fields-Rd 25-40 27

I suspect that the new pitching coach coming in had something to do with the projected signability for the pitchers. I know for a fact it changed what a couple of pitchers were telling scouts about signability.
Cave got 92% scholarship according to him 2 years ago when he commited.
Mainieri's issue with the draft is that he doesn't know his role and shut his mouth. In the past he has given kids ultimatums and deadlines before the signing deadline, pulled the offers of younger siblings, and persuaded players to go with different agents to spite a guy that represented a HS player that signed. His ego is too big for him to realize that the MLB doesn't give a shite about him. And he whines way too damn much about everything.

Absolutely true. For all the good he does by getting rid of Grewe he does this crap.

So you are a young player signed with LSU,, you have to wonder if this might happen to you also.. that scholly you get your first year might disappear by your Jr year- when you can't transfer anywhere (other than NAIA). Does that make Mainari a "liar" also?
Or, god forbid you get drafted-- Its none of PM's business how much money you will take to sign.. I promise, the way the coaches handled Cecchini & Colvin during the summer leading up to the deadline had ALOT to do with their decision. Yes they got the $$ they wanted, but there was no nothing left to pull them to LSU.
What situation did TJ "endure" that wasn't of his own making?

Jones and Watkins will both get drafted,, and both should go ahead and sign..
doubt any incoming guys will be signing contracts right away.. mid-August is more likely..
I think it is a wise move.. Having Grewe here hurt some pitchers signability with LSU.. Now, if PM will go ahead and hire a REAL pitching coach.. maybe one with pitching experience..
ULL has 2 kids that played on the same travel team,, another is the coaches kid played with Marrucci some. A crock coming from a homer..
But he can hit.. may be the best right handed hitter coming in with this class. His arm and position are a little more of a question. Listed as a catcher but has played 3rd alot in high school.
The scouts I have talked to think different. He should be picked up in the first 10 rounds..

Sounds like a backup player on Airline has an axe to grind..
as will every player who is drafted this year...
I can promise beyond any doubt that what is going on now and being said my LSU coaches is having a lukewarm effect on recruits. None of the signees (I can speak for 1 specifically) are afraid of competition. But it is a spooky situation to see your future head coach talk about his players like that in the press. Very poor judgment. You dont hear that kind of statement coming from other SEC coaches, running down current players. Also, expect any current player who gets drafted to take whatever they can get and leave.. Nola may be the only exception..
Left Cody Glenn off list..

actually rookie league is better than SEC competition..that is why just about every player needs to put in some time there. Huge misconception that SEC comp is same or better than the lowest level of pro ball..
Vandy recruits top players who have the option of signing - just like LSU players. The difference is how Corbin treats those kids during the summer before deciding to sign or or not. For more information on how those players are treated look over on the recruiting board re: Cecchini and Trahan..

Pay close attention to the players Vandy has signed for 2012.. several who till be drafted and several will show up. What WONT happen is they wont be driven away from the school by pressure and threats from the coaches.
Lefty hitter, pretty good speed. He could probably help us this year.
