Brad Hawpe during the Saturday game of the 2000 opening weekend series. If there was ever a ball hit further it would have to be a heck of a shot because this was a blast.

and said it was R. Palmerio's in 1984, which safe to say hardly any of us saw that...much less remember it.

The foul ball he hit before the home run was even longer. Bo Jackson #1, Lyle Mouton #2, Joey Belle #3, and Wilkerson's ball #4.

I saw Eddie Furniss hit a screamer that left the park in seconds and one hopped the athletic admin building. Not sure who it was against but that is the furthest that I saw in person at the old box.

That was a wall scraper, but it did go all the way to Omaha.

In 86 or 87, Joey Belle hit one across Nicholson into the track stadium parking lot. I believe Skip says that's the farthest he's ever seen.

that's got to be 600 ft.

The longest one I saw at the Box was hit by Brad Wilkerson of Florida. Hit it right out of right field. It appeared as the ball was still rising when it left the park. Further I have ever seen was hit by Eddy Furniss against SLU in Hammond. The ball didn't start dropping until it was in the pine trees behind the parking lot behind right field

I was at the LSU/Tech game at JC Love field also. Belle hit big bombs that night. And Tech did win in extras, if memory serves. Richie Leblanc was a great pitcher at Tech and dated - and I believe married - a girl I went to high school with in Minden

If you get on Google Earth, scroll to the old Alex Box. You can click on TOOLS and the RULER. If you click on home plate and then drag the mouse pointer around ouside the outfield wall, you can see exactly how far it is to some of these locations from home plate.

Shortest distance from home plate to get it on top of one of the apartments is 540 ft going out in left field.

Shortest distance to the track parking lot is about 690 ft dead center.

Off the side of the admin building would be 600 ft going out of right field.

Hawpe hit one foul in the SEC tournament that emptied both dugouts when it left. Major bomb.
