You saw Boras' comments?

Speaking of Boras and now looking back on the draft... Does anybody else think that the Stros took Aiken over Rodon because of agents and they knew they could get an underslot deal with Aiken but not with Rodon?

Boras represents Rodon and even stated the Astros would not be doing this if he were the agent/advisor involved. All of this sounds like it was the plan the entire time. I just hope Aiken and the FO can come to a resolution and put this shite behind us.

Every option including Rodon was going to go under slot.

Yeah and? Aiken was the best player on the board in their opinion. Him going under slot was part of their decision though.

He very well could. My opinion of the situation went from #ItsHappening, to #HeGone, to slightly optimistic, to what looks to be a current state of no one knows a damn thing.

So I'll leave my emotions out of it until the deadline Friday.

You just contradicted yourself. If every candidate for the pick was going to go under slot, it didn't matter much...considering the initially reported Aiken deal and #2 pick Rodon's deal ended up both at the same figure ($6.5M).

No I didn't? Go back to my original post, I included the word partly.

Also, Rodon did go for over slot. He would've asked for slot if he had been picked #1 overall.

I said they thought he was the best player on the board. The fact he would sign under slot played into it.

You're either the best player or you're not in the eyes of the team. Saying slot has something to do with it makes zero sense.

If you're talking best value, then okay.

Rodon actually got over slot value. The 3rd pick was slotted for $5.7 mill and Rodon got $6.5 mill. Everybody knows how Boras is with contracts, and it would not surprise me one bit if Houston backed off of the idea of taking Rodon knowing that. They figured they could get more bang for their buck in taking Aiken underslot and adding another arm or two.

Slot Values

It has something to do with who the Astros picked. I would advise you not to get into it with me about this one because you aren't very knowledgeable with the Astros drafting history.

Whether or not they draft a player one overall or not, has to do with whether they will sign for slot or not. It ups their value because they can sign some players that could be harder to sign.

See 2 years ago when they took Carlos Correa and he signed underslot and they signed Lance McCullers and Rio Ruiz who were harder to sign with those Correa savings.

I was joining in the discussion about taking one player over another on signability. Damn you like to get your jimmies rustled.

We're all just mad you picked the Astros over LSU in the Marshall case.
