LSU's rushing attack is vastly underrated
Posted by Tigerpaul1969 on 12/16/11 at 11:26 am00
The talking heads say things, then repeat them, then they become fact because they've said them so many times. This is usually done with no basis in reality.
They all simply mouth that Bama's rushing attack is better than LSU's with no view to anything factual, just that Trent Richardson had a few nice runs against some lesser teams and the "eye test" garbage. No doubt he's a great back, but LSU's rushing attack overall is better than Bama's in the big games.
Bama only played three "big" games this year (two at home) and LSU played five (only one at home). In Bama's three big games against Penn State, Arky and LSU, they rushed 111 times for 489 yards (4.4 ypc) and 3 TDs. In LSU's five big games against Oregon, WVU, Bama, Arky and UGA, LSU rushed 211 times for 1,002 yards (4.7 ypc) and TWELVE touchdowns.
Before you make fun of Oregon's defense, they are actually ranked above Penn State in rushing defense (46 v. 48). We also went against the No. 1 rushing defense (Bama) and No. 9 (UGA) in those five games. Also, West Virginia is surprisingly No. 51, just three spots behind Penn State in rushing defense.
The only one of the big game teams that does not have a respectable rushing defense is Arkansas (No. 79), which is the one common opponent.
LSU's rushing attack is extremely impressive, especially in the second half, to which Bama can attest.
Maybe this is Germans to LSU fans, but whenever I watch these dumb people on the analysis shows, I get ticked off because they have people to do research for them, but it seems that they are extremely lazy anyway.

It's another example of how the media cannot get their hands around Les Miles and the LSU football program. Les is doing things that are unconventional. The media wants to promote one running back. Our 4 back running attack is the best in the country. Les looks for athletic punters who can make an on the field decision to fake the kick or not. Les has found in Wing a calculating risk taker just like Les. Les is always looking for an edge in every position played. But the media has not picked up on it yet.

Solid post. The rushing attacks are relatively equal. I think most people would agree that Richardson is the most talented back among the six worth noting (Richardson, Lacy, Ware, Ford, Hilliard, and Blue). Just remember, the slightly above-average fan of any program has more knowledge of their team than most talking heads. These guys get paid for name recognition and to know a little about a lot of teams.

nuh uh, remember Ware is in the same class as Richardson.....LAWL.

LSU's rushing attack relies on different backs that all have their own unique strengths. I totally agree, our running game has been extremley underrated all year simply because we don't have 1 back that has put up lots of stats.

Only when these two teams play each other.

Also interesting is that Ford and Blue both have better yards per carry than TR. Not saying they're better, but it's interesting nonetheless.

And the Alabama fans continue to impress.

Considering that Ware is currently our fourth best back, your inference is a good one. Now, whether Ford, Blue or Hilliard are in the same class?

I don't recall LSU's rushing game being criticized. In yards/game LSU is ranked 17 and Bama is 15. Since you have a weaker passing game that means you're not getting stopped even when they know you're coming. That's a complement to the RG. LSU is 105 in passing and Bama is at 72.

BTW, I don't remember ANY LSU fan arguing that Ware was as good or better than TR, but there were many who said that LSU's stable was as good or better than TR. That looks pretty spot on at this point.

BTW, just so you think I'm not a complete homer. LSU is #1 in rushing in SEC only games. Bama is #2. We had virtually an identical schedule in the SEC. This does not count the SECCG. Avg Yards/gm 220.4/205.0 LSU/Bama.

We're not necessarily criticized, but the pundits' knee-jerk reaction is to say that Alabama has a better rushing game, pretty much across the board. I'm saying that is not the case at all.
As a matter of fact, my argument is that LSU's rushing game overall is better than Alabama's in the most hyped games of the year. It's slightly better, but I think it's better. Chris Faulk is a major reason for this. I believe he is the most underrated O-lineman in the SEC and absolutely should have been first-team all-SEC and probably first-team All-American, if these idiots actually paid attention to the games.

We have the best RB but you get a lot of yards from your QB that we don't get. Fact is we lose yards at QB due to sacks. AJ runs less than any QB we've had in years.

After we struggled a bit running against Alabama (still ran for 148 yards) we ran for 291 yards on Western Kentucky, 353 yards on Ole Miss, 286 yards against Arkansas and 207 yards on UGA. We really turned it up at the end of this year.

You run the "I" formation a lot and we hardly ever do. In a 1 back scheme running TR then EL for fresh legs is as good a duo as there is in CFB.
