LSU's offense was just short of awesome in 2007.

What is differnt about that offense and our current offense?

I will start with a hint: It damn sure is not Gary Crowton, and it may start with a Q.

Maybe its Crowton's fault for not adjusting his scheme around his QB? So does this mean we will only have a good offense with a senior QB as long as Crowton is here?

Les Miles, OLine, and QB. Although even in 2007, we seemed to scratch by through pure talent alone. Thats why we won shootouts with inferior teams, and lost twice. We had a very talented team that won despite coaching.

What was different between BYU's first season under Crowton and his 2nd, 3rd and 4th season under Crowton? I will give a hint: His first offense rocked, then his offense sucked arse in years 2,3,4.

What does LSU have in common with BYU? I'll give you a hint: It starts with a terrible offense and ends with a "rowton".

Stud took 2 d-tackles and put them on the o-line that year and the blocking was good. The offense ran the ball well last year but there were too many turnovers. This year, we don't run the ball well, we don't turn the ball over, passing is adequate but we take too many sacks and too many delay of game penalties. The coaching has been the same the last three years but different results each year. One thing that has changed has been the personel.

You are far too rational. You'd better get the hell out of here before this place rubs off on you.

I would say to have a great team a junior or senior QB is almost always required. There are just to many examples out there to prove this statement.

On the other hand you can have a good team with a Freshman or Sophomore QB, but unless the person is very special I don't think underclassman QB's add up to great teams.

I do think we tried to do a lot more this year and that may have caused some problems (delay of game, misreads, etc) so the coaches may take some blame, but I don't get people who have been hammering Stud. In his third year the o-line is a problem after two great years of o-line play so I'm giving him a pass. I expect them to be bigger and better next year.

You could be right, but I have to say I would be interested to see how Crowton fairs with an experienced seasoned QB next year (Jefferson as a Junior).

It will be comical if the offense is great, and all the bandwagon fans jump back on the greatness of the Wizard.

Next year the offense should be improved even if Crowton stays. Miles and co, supposedly re-evaluate the faults of the season and work to correct them. Hopefully they will, and will improve how they do things in 2010.

C-Black was a disappointment this year, but hopefully the unit will improve next year.

Personnel (players) change every year at every school. So our personnel has changed so much that we're now 12th best in the SEC in offense?

Which falls on the oc and ultimately Les. I just think its easier to replace the OC. Especially in our position.

The exploits of the 2007 offense have become almost mythical.
It wasn't really all that and a bag of chips.
The 45 hung on MSU was largely due to great defense against a pitiful Moo U offense. Crowtonmagnon kept it conservative
Virginia Tech a great performance but we were still throwing deep when the game was not in question and VaTech had laid down.
Dropping 44 on Middle Tennessee or 58 on a bad LaTech team is no big whup and the offense sucked against Tulane.
It was a pretty pedestrian 28 hung on So Carolina.
The UF game was about ball control and there was nothing exceptional about the O since we scored 14 on 4th down plays.
Yes, it was gutsy but it was old fashioned smash mouth, not dynamic play calling.
The UK game was actually a harbinger of things to come. Charles Scott is unstoppable in the first half but doesn't touch the ball until the final play of the game when everyone in Commonwealth knew he would get the ball.
The Hog game was worse in that Ark gave us short fields three times in the first quarter and we got either 0 or 3 pts from it. Further, keys penalties and faulty execution by the offense cost us at least a go ahead TD in the game.
There were lots of omens of future problems that season, including the inexplicable QB off tackle calls run by Flynn and Perriloux.
Crowton's innovation and wizardry is a total fabrication. The sooner he is gone the better.

Again, maybe they tried to do too much and it caused some problems and it's not all a talent issue. I don't know. What I do know (or assume) is that Miles, Crowton and Stud will be here next year. So I can bitch about for the next 9 months or hope for the best.
