brothers aren't afraid of tigers? Ever see them at the zoo in front of the tiger?

If they could train Mike to run across the field and maul a replica player of the other team, the crowd would go nuts.
WAR MIKE!!!
WAR MIKE!!!

Damn straight! I'd even go so far as to say I'd rather be in the room with an eagle as opposed to a pissed off elephant.

Bevo is not only a steer, but a sedated one. Very, very lame.
Give me Buffie over him any day!

The Buffalo is much cooler. Especially if he runs over a cheerleader.

This is some funny stuff. But so true!! Ha. Ha. WAR MIKE!!! I love it. I saw this College Football Live show. Seriously, I'm OK with his choice of the pre-game release of the eagle. Both the eagle (dinosaur descendent, forward looking eyes) and the tiger (like Mike) are predators (so are humans).
I went to a game with my Dad when Tiger Stadium was 62,000 (or so) capacity. Pre-game they brought out Mike in his cage (as usual). The crowd was buzzing (still loud, probably 95 - 100 db) with conversations throughout the stadium. Suddenly Mike the Tiger let out a roar. I mean a ROAR!!! The crowd went totally silent. I mean totally silent!!! You could have heard a pin drop. Chills up and down my spine! I will never forget that moment. Could not imagine hearing that sound in a jungle.
As one poster said, favorite mascot is subjective. Perhaps Desmond never experienced that moment in time. I did, and if (IMHO) a soaring Golden or Bald Eagle can compete with that then the mascot animal kingdom needs to be reshuffled.
ETA: I have since learned (Discover magazine - 2010) that the Tiger's roar at very low bass frequencies of 10 - 40 Hz and 110 dB is a magnificent feat. 10 - 40 Hz sounds (deep bass) are omni-directional (not narrow beam like high frequency) sounds. In addition, low frequencies as mentioned above require much, much more power to project 110 dB (as compared to 4,000 Hz sounds).
Tigers use this "blast" to temporarily stun their prey. They also use this "blast" to temporarily (fractions of a second) slow down (discombobulate - haha) the response of their rival in a Tiger to Tiger battle (usually a battle of males)...
I can now understand why Mike the Tiger's roar totally shut down any sound from the crowd. Wow. Total predator. Geauxx Mike !! Geauxx Tigers !!

This is incorrect. During the Cotton Bowl game against LSU, I noticed that Bevo took a shite on the sideline. That's doing something!
(alajones beat me to it)

Oh I beg to differ, Tigers can very much be petted..

If Desmond's list was simply about intimidating I certainly would be the Tiger over the Eagle. (Are the players even on the field during the War Eagle pre-game for the players to be 'intimidated' from it) but if it is just simply who has the best live animal mascot I can understand why he put the War Eagle flying over the stadium, I imagine it has a more majestic feel to it (besides it requires more training than putting a tiger in a cage)

He didn't say you couldn't pet a tiger. He said you couldn't pet Mike the tiger.

Oh, god, War Eagle is so intimidating. Birds breaking their necks by slamming into the ground frighten me so terribly.

The Fla State Semi-hole with the freaking spear has got to rank above a steer, a covered wagon or a dog. IMHO

The eagle is pretty cool I guess, because as far as costumed mascots, Aubie is not as cool as Mike.
AUBIE
MIKE
And while we're talking Tigers, this guy is just freakin' scary (it's Clemson)! Sleestack anyone?

I firmly believe that this:
Will one day evolve into this:
And then there will be no question as to who has the most intimidating mascot.
