LSU’s main defensive issues last year were DB problems. We just hired a DB guru/specialist

It’s called addressing problems

This guy is well respected in nfl circles.

Do you guys think O just pulled out an nfl reference book and picked a random coach to interview?

Nope. He asked around. He asked “I need a guy who will make my units better. Tell me who that guy may be”

I thought we already had a well respected DB coach. No?

It was. LBs and Safeties were easily the biggest issues. There were times when they might as well have not even been on the field

he was there last year too. now we have a DC who understands how they fit into his defense not just teaching and honing their technique.

We got very little pressure on QB. We have not gotten much pressure on the QB for several years. We did well during the playoff run.
We did not stop the run very well. Yes the defensive backs were out of position. But our problems were not limited to DBs.

With the personnel in the last two recruiting classes. The entire defense will be better talent wise

And of all the other NFL teams that were after this "DB guru/specialist", he turned them down for LSU???

Or was it no one else considered him a DB guru/specialist??

It was mainly LBs and safeties. Not sure why, but those two groups underperformed big time.

The talent is there, I believe, so Jones will have something to work with.

If that is their logic, then why did they initially pursue a LB coach (Freeman) and a DL target (Neilsen) before ultimately "settling" on a DB coach THIRD!?!?!

The db issue was poor safety talent.

These hires need to be be a spectacular success or spectacular failure. The worst thing for the program is to be just ok next year.

Agree, but thus move let's you hire a dedicated LB coach and not someone who splits duties like our last two DCs.

well if Raymond is a DB guru, he sure didn't show it last season. and some people wanted him for D Coordinator. never was one before.
