Blocking in space is the hardest thing to do in football.

Guys like Delane you can watch his film and know exactly what you are getting.

I remember a few posters poo poo'd the Delane & Moore signings because they came from a team that played in the ACC.

And Les's approach ultimately won nothing of note outside of the SEC Championship in 2011.

Did you really say that Les Miles won "nothing of note"? How about a National Championship in 2007

Honestly, it was poor scheme & coaching that failed him. He's been a solid corner since returning to Syracuse. You have to remember there was no Baker & Raymond when Chestnut was at LSU.

That was prior to his "ball control" offensive approach.

From 2005-2008 Les ran a pretty open offense. At least one that wasn't terrified to throw the ball. It was after the 2008 season that he flipped to a totally risk-averse offensive approach. Hence the statement that he didn't win anything of note with that approach beyond the 2011 SEC championship...a game where he was bailed out by Mathieu when the offense of the No. 1 team in the country couldn't even get a 1st down in the first half.

I don't understand why Donovan Green doesn't get more playing time. He's the most complete TE. Best blocker and a decent receiver. I'd put him in more to help Weston.

College football is primed and ready for i form bully ball rushing if a team is willing to commit to that and defense. Defenses are built for spread offenses now.

The D didn't score 42 by themselves vs UGA top 5 D.

The Miles complimentary system of excellent D, ST and ball control worked really well until it didn't vs Bama, but hard to say it sucked.
For the season LSU was top 5 FBS in scoring margin and top 20 in PPG.

Put in an additional lead blocker like a FB, on dives off tackle and sweeps, this could be the answer with an additional blocker when LSU runs the ball. They installed it a few times already and it was successful. Sharp blew up a few lineman and LBs. I'm sure we will see this, if so, LSU could run for 200+ yards. If we run the ball and control the clock LSU wins.

I would really like to see some 12 personnel with both Sharp and Donovan Green Saturday. Green is a fricking legit blocker. He had a couple of gems vs Clemson. Line him up next to Weston Davis to help him for a few plays in pass pro and definitely use him as a lead on some outside runs.

This is where the jet in 11 or 12 personnel can really be effective. Then you can have both your TE and RB as lead blockers in space. If the WR on that side does his job, you get Thomas or Brown to that edge with their speed and then the defense has problems, especially with their weakness at Safety.

I agree. I don’t think they see him as a very good receiver at TE, but he had a couple of nice catches vs SELU, so he doesn’t seem like a liability there.
