If the reasoning behind hiring Coach O was for any other reason than he was the best possible available candidate for the job, then LSU football is in a lot of trouble. The surest way back to mediocrity is to settle.

Obviously there are problems if they thought he was the best possible candidate available, but a mistake in evaluating coaching candidates is a correctable mistake at least. There's no cure for a pervasive culture in which settling is ok because the mindset is, we're not going to beat Saban anyway so why try?

I think O will do pretty well, but there is no way any intelligent person can make the argument that he was qualified to coach LSU, unless you think LSU isn't a top 25 program. Furthermore, we could have had O at his previous positions and a better qualified HC.

O is good for the short term; he is probably not good for the medium or long term.

Because he will be an easy fire if it don't work out. They obviously could not get Jimbo to leave Fla. St and Herman was a back up plan they would go with for the right price and would not over pay for him and I don't blame them. Jimbo is who they really wanted and I think that is evident. Id rather see coach O than Herman coaching the tigers, the assistant staff is stronger than it's ever been in a long time and I and I think coach O will be a better decision maker since the game obviously passed les by. So in that sense we did upgrade overall

I would dissect the whole post but it is to shitty to do that.

I don't understand it either. It's like every day a new dumbass wakes up and decide he's going to post something new in this subject. It was beat to death by the end of December. There is no new angle or discussion to be had about this

O isn't going to be a decision maker.

We basically got A Les Miles who doesn't handcuff the offense.

'07, '13, '11, and '06 are most LSU offensive TDs /season, each under a different OC.
If this is the handcuff thing you refer to, I'd like to see more, in fact see '17 take over #1 spot.

but the contract terms are terrible, as well.

Well you know the new coach had all those other offers from Piss Ant University and several others.

Luckily i had not seen his buyout clause until now, because i'm all kinds of pissed off again.

Alleva is a DUMBASS

quote:

Orgerons buyout following the 2017 season is $12 million, and that number will drop to $8.5 million in 2018, $6 million in 2019 and $4.5 million in 2020. Thats some job security, and its a bit surprising.

So i had originally thought O could get fired if going below .500 this year, but yeah, thats not happening.

Holy shite!!! $12m buyout? This place will melt to the ground and break the Internet before he's gone if he loses 4-5+ every year. shite, he can lose 10 this year and he won't be fired.

Let's be clear AD JA went with O. This was his decision. He was given the green light to make his hire.

The success or failure of this hire is all on JA

I don't see this at all.

All O has to do is what Miles did in his last few years--lose 3-5 games a year, make a middling bowl ... and the "he's one of us" crowd will make sure he's In Like Flint.

Hell, Alleva is desperate to lower the bar anyway, to shore up his job security.

When LSU hired Les he only had a few signature wins.Coach O will do well and he wants to be here, unlike the others.

Why the frick do people keep saying this? Is there a head coach at ANY P5 school who DOESNT want to be there? WTF kind of reasoning is this?
