The refs also missed a couple of holding calls on LSU on 3rd down conversions on LSU scoring drives.

there is holding on every play including the ones of USC's final drive...and you were not even there you listened on the radio...

I'm sure here comes the I watched the game film card about to get played...

Okay, I'll alert all refs that holding is legal now.

Correct.

My point is that every time one of the greatest games ever played in TS is brought up, many (not all) Tiger fans bring up the phantom face mask, which is, perhaps, the biggest myth in LSU football history, and/or the missed O line movement. Penalties are missed in every game, just as some were missed on the other side of the ball.

I think all agree, this game was one of the all-time greats, if not the greatest, in TS. But some fans can't seem to get over the facemask that actually was or a missed penalty. The game was over 30 years ago. It's time to let that part go.

Then, of course, there are those that say LSU tore SC up. But the stats tell a different story.

Great great game in LSU football history.

17-12

I was there...the facemask play should have been blown dead...I don't know how the PAC 8 refs missed TWO USC o-linemen move before the snap of the ball

thats a weak facemask

saw that immediately, that was horrendous. I am suprised the homer guys calling the game didn't see that but they saw the one on LSU that I failed to see

Crazy game given away on blown calls

thanks for the link...your film clearly shows the TWO USC linemen move before the snap of the ball and the facemask play should have never happened...if I remember right that was 3 and 9 and the RIGHT CALL would have put the Trojans back to 3 and 14...

in 2035, I bet you all still won't be over the split NC

I liked that we got the return game in the Coliseum 23-3 in 1984.

I too was there and in my mind was the greatest LSU game I ever watched. The noise was unbelievable. After the game one USC fan said "You guys play with heart". It’s true. I was able to also make an audio tape of the game with John Ferguson and Walter Hill doing the announcing. I still have it.

No doubt a great game.

Yep. It was so ugly for the Trojans that the was a mandatory evacuation of the women and children at halftime.

I was actually at the Tulane game in the Dome that night in N.O., and listened to the game on the radio also. The crowd noise was so loud, even over the radio, sounded like when the Beatles came to America.

I don't feel as bad about this game because LSU went to California and whipped USC's arse in their backyard.

Who brought it up in this thread? USC was busted for cheating so honestly.....we know who the best was in 2003.

Wish we could have settled it on the field.

You are one of the Top Five Douchebags on this entire board.

You'd do us all a favor by getting your USC lovin' arse outa here forever.

Sort of strange to see this game so popular for LSU fans? I understand that USC was a premier team back then, but a loss is a loss so I don't understand the luv for this lost.

Because the condoms should have lost. Charlie Mac, on his deathbed, maintained that the facemask on Benjy Thibodaux was a bad call. I was there and it was.

LINK

LINK

Here is the famous play in question. I filmed this off my tv screen but it's pretty good. The first link I zoomed in on the right guard and tackle. The second link is the live play with a great shot of Coach Mac pleading his case.
