This is what many universities that aren’t the state flagship and are located in an urban area do. University of Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis, Houston, Dayton, etc. Others like Charlotte may still technically be UNC Charlotte, but they have shortened what they go by to Charlotte. That makes the most sense.
