Well this bowl is an embarrassment. It may be one step up from the New Orleans Bowl.

So this is what lsu football has come to? a bowl that doesn't mean anything. keeping les miles is telling all of us lsu fans that we're content with a 8-4 or 7-5 season and going to a meaningless bowl every year. we've become just like Kentucky and Tennessee with a record like this..

LSU is going to win 8 or 9 games a year. It is what it is.

n 20 years the Texas Bowl history will look better than it does now, assuming the setup doesn't change (which it will). Not quite as good as the cotton, because of how the picks are done, but it essentially replaced the cotton.

Yes, the east has the benefit of playing bowl games on the east coast, and those were typically better bowls. In time, the nature of the bowl will be dictated by the quality of the teams in them. You really can't look at the history of teams anymore, because of how differently it's done.

Eta: replaced it geographically, before you shite a brick on that one.

No it wont because other conferences dont shite on the match ups to appease certain teams or cater to certain divisions.

Unless the west team makes the CFP NY6 or Citrus (which will still lean East as weve learned in the past) then the fall is to the texas bowl. Other conferences are still obviously trying to value to prestige and have a little bit of order. Big 12 Pac12 have the striaght up number system. The alamo bowl features a great match up of TCU vs UO. Holiday is USC vs Wisconsin.

Formerly there was an equivalent for the outback bowl for the west. The outback bowl this year features 10-2 Northwestern. In the past the scenario would be exactly the same as this year. SEC champ-NC, next goes to Sugar, Next goes to citrus then the next from the East goes to the Outback and the next goes to the Cotton.

The texas bowl will never build tradition because the tie in conference is the big 12 which values it as the number 4. We used to get the West number 2 (or 3) vs the big 12 #2 (or 3) for the cotton bowl depending on how the BCS filled out.

Instead we get the number 4/5 team from a 10 team conference. While the east gets a "tier 1" pairing per the Big 10 tie in rules in the outback bowl and a "tier 1" ACC in the taxslayer (alternates with the big 10).

There will never be a high profile matchup in the Texas bowl.

Just trying to figure out where people want to go instead? If you aren't in the playoffs, then I'll take the easier drive to a bowl game and a city where lots of friends live.

I still don't see why anyone is surprised we are playing in the Texas bowl.

I think most people would rather the Citrus or Outback. You can hit Disney and Universal while you make the trip there. Not much to do in Texas.

can't speak for all, but i have always been informed that recruits really don't care much about non important bowl games outcomes..

What bowl games are important then?

I want the SEC to get another high profile match up for the West Squads. I like the Alamo bowl. The same pairing of big-12/SEC squads as the old cotton just in San Antonio

Oh yeah, people would bitch about those and you know it. Our fanbase is full of bitches. They bitched the last time LSU played in those games.

But the actual tie ins have nothing to do with record, everything to do with conference you are in. And for the majority of the sec history, LSU pretty much the farthest team west, so most of the tie in bowls are closer to other programs.

Yes its a conference tie in but the Big12 still does a numbered based pairing (as does the SEC within reason they just have PC'd it so that they can put the East teams in the florida bowls as you can see, UGA isnt in the Belk Bowl). With a numbered based pairing the better record goes to the better bowl.

In the SEC it has always been BCS NC-Sugar-Citrus-Outback east/Cotton west-Peach and so on.

The Cotton was paired with the number 2 or 3 big 12 team depending on the BCS bids.

If we had replaced the cotton bowl with the Alamo bowl instead of say the Belk Bowl then the 2nd-3rd best west team would have a good match up vs a likely ranked opponent. Instead there is a bunch of crap thats really no better than the old I bowl pairings. Right now the 2nd-3rd best East team gets the Outback which features a game vs #12 ranked 10-2 Northwestern.

Look at my post above for previous Cotton bowl matchups. It was always top 15-20 teams and it was VERY RARE for the SEC team to have a better overall standing than we do this year.

I'm already getting shite talked to me by my tech friends.

Honestly, I think LSU runs for 400+ on them, if not more, but Tech will certainly have some success in the air. It won't be a blowout.

Please someone, give me a reason to think that this program will get turned around and that next season will be any different than the last 4. Who really believes that Les will do anything any differently, that Harris will be any better, that the defense will be any better, that special teams will be any better and the offense will be any Les predictable and that we won't end up at a bowl in Shreveport?

I still have pretty high hopes for Harris. He lost his confidence this year but he has the talent.
