we beat that '13 team at home then blew the game at Rupp, before getting hammered by them in the SEC tourney. i could see them getting to that level, but they aren't there yet. this is a totally winnable game.
The concern is that the in last two seasons LSU has been one of the few teams in the SEC with a frontcourt to match UK's. Mickey, Martin and O'Bryant could hold their own against UK's front line, especially on the glass. This season is a different story. All LSU has is Victor and Simmons who is just as much a guard as he is a forward. UK doesn't have a Randle, Cauly-Stein, or Towns this season, but they still have length and size. It's going to be a lot to ask Simmons to grab every rebound, defend the post AND run the team on offense. Hopefully Quarterman or even Gray can dig inside to help out.

I know it's asking a ton because we haven't shown it yet, but if you play fundamentally and box out, you can hinder UK big time. With WCS and Townslast year, they're so big and long even if they're boxed out then can still get rebounds. Besides Skal, who is as soft as Charmin, they are missing the length. Lee is a great athlete with wingspan, but it's not freakish like years past

SOS you'll be in attendance?
First game of the Ben Simmons era...schedule opens up some for me to make some games down the stretch. Excited about tonight!
Of course I'll be there. I'm going to both UK games this year.

Damn, I want to go to Rupp so badly

It's normally much harder than that.
Only because those teams are down. They dont avoid playing the big boys was the point. Their schedule isnt "different" than usual.

I have a ticket, a place to stay, and a DD so I will be on my best LSU "bourbon inspired" behavior. I'm extremely excited about it.

Except, like you just said, those teams are down. So they haven't played 5-6 ranked teams like they normally. So seeing how their schedule isn't as hard as it normally is, that would be classified as "different". They played 7 teams in the non-conference that made the NCAA tourney last year. Out of those 7, only Buffalo was from a mid-major. They've played maybe 3 ncaa tourney teams in their non conference this year.
So, again, it's not about the teams they're playing, it's the quality.

SportsCenter just did a big segment on Simmons. Regarding tonight Seth Greenberg said he'd use a combo of Pythress and Briscoe to stop Simmons. Can anyone else provide any insight on how well they think those two would do? Seems to me Hornsby is going to have to be ready to shoot the lights out tonight.

Poythress is probably the best match up in the SEC against him. He's big and athletic. With that said, Ben is still in a league of his own and I could see him gettin Poythress in foul trouble quickly if he's aggressive.
As far as Briscoe, he's 6'2-6'3 so giving up a ton of height. But UK may want Simmons in the post so they can double him. Wake put a 6'2 guard on Ben and somewhat stopped him. I think that was good practice for Simmons and hopefully he learned from the experience.

Simmons is the best player in college along with the guard at Oklahoma.
There will be a few people guarding Simmons tonight. A few players have specifically requested it, which isn't surprising. Simmons only scores out of low post-up's @ 19% of the time, so size really isn't a factor in being effective guarding him. He also isn't a good shooter, so the problem is keeping him from driving. That is certainly not easy to do. He's a freak with the ball for his size and very athletic. I would prefer to pack in a zone and make LSU make shots, but that's not our style.
I expect Briscoe to start out on him, because he is physical and a solid defender. I don't think you "STOP" Simmons, because no one has. NC State would like to think they did, but his 4 points scored also sat along side a double-double in rebounds and assists.
Johnny Jones is the only weakness. You guys have 3-4 NBA players on the court, including the #1 overall selection. No excuses for the way the season has gone to date. People always play out of their mind vs. Kentucky, we just bring out the best in people, so I expect a real competitive game.

I'm not seeing the 3-4 NBA players on our team. We have Simmons then Hornsby and victor who are 2 good college players IMO. TQ seemed to be set to have a good year but he's been bad, tone has potential but has yet to prove he's a true scorer this year. So IMO we have 1 for sure NBA player and 1 who might get drafted, TQ.

Headed to the game tonight and it'll be my first LSU basketball game. Is there any pre-game sites that need to be seen? Just trying to find a time of when we should get into the PMAC.. Thanks

Simmons, Blakeney, Hornsby...Quarterman
Posted on 1/5/16 at 1:29 pm to CoachDon
Tim has not played hard all year except when Ben has fouled out, and second half against Vandy. Tim is the real piece here, because he can be a nightmare if he chooses to drive and be aggressive instead of trying to show scouts he can shoot.
Blakeney has played absolutely terrible offense since Hornsby has come back, and we need him to play well.

There is something in the air today. If there was ever a game for this lsu team to show the country who they are this is it. It's been a long time since I have been this excited for an lsu bball game.

He's a horrible shooter right now. I think he's made maybe less than 5 true jump shots all year. There's a lot of things that make him a special player. However, maybe the biggest thing is his ability to drive and score with either hand. Yes, just about all college players can use both hand efficiently, but Simmons will take fluid shots with either. There are literally no bad driving angles for him because he can put it us with his right hand just as easily as he does with his left. He never looks awkward going to the goal.

I just dont see it from anyone other than Simmons. Tone has yet to impress me and I can't believe he would get drafted if the draft was tomorrow. Tim, I think has played himself out of being drafted so far. But that's just how I see it.
