I love it! Houston has the largest supply of LSU alumni of any city, outpassing Dallas, Baton Rouge and New Orleans. That could factor into this bowl decision.

Is this a fact or an exaggeration? That can’t be true, can it?

I was told about 10 years ago by someone at the LSU alumni Association that only Baton Rouge had more alumni. Perhaps Houston surpassed BR.

As a former long time board member of the LSU Houston Alumni Chapter, you are correct.... we have several thousand alumni in the Houston area, but the chapter itself is very small. Most of the leaders now are young and live inside 610 and want all events inside 610. Us older alumni don't like driving to the Heights for game watches, etc... traffic and parking suck in that area. I can stay in Sugar Land and meet to watch games out here without thr traffic hassles & loud piped in music during time outs by some dj.

It’s all about the money. LSU has a very large alumni base in Houston vs. Nashville. It’s that simple.

We played in the Reliaquest two years ago when Nuss made his first start ever as a Tiger. I would be shocked if even 2,000 LSU fans showed up to see Nuss throw 5 TD passes in his "coming out party".

All things considered, this isn't a bad outcome.

True, but I don't think even the LSU fans who live in Houston will go to this game.

LOL. There were ~35K LSU fans there last year for Baylor for an afternoon kick on New Years Eve. It will not sell out, but it will be one of the better non-new years day bowl games.

I have been in Houston for 35 years and was once a contributing member to the Houston Alumni...which makes me one of us older alumni as well. I can not recall any watch party that was outside the loop, and probably attended ~50 game watches at the original Woodrow's alone. In its heyday, around 2005, you could not get into the place a half hour before kickoff. And that was after they added the parking lot tent.

Is the group still split between a Houston and North Houston group?

Reliaquest was in early 2024 (after the 23 season). Nuss's first start, v. Wisconsin. That was quite a favorable first impression for what proved to be a somewhat disappointing suitor.

No. There weren’t 35K LSU fans at that game.
