Bleacher Report identified LSU as a potential bracket buster due to their offense. I actually think if we get hot then a run to the Sweet 16 or Elite Eight is not out of the realm of possibility.

I think we have one of the best offensive units in the country and depending on the matchups we can make some noise

Right now, this team could either get bounced in the round of 64 or go Elite 8. Maybe with the SC win they'll refocus and get back to consistent basketball.

We are a team that could beat and lose to anyone.

We need that 2nd half consistency we thought we had gained 5 games ago.

We need Marlon Taylor to play better. We need spark off the bench. We need a lot, but we're winning games and this team has been pretty good.

I think there are 3 factors that will dictate how far LSU will go in the tourney.

1. How are the refs calling the game?
- LSU is great at the FT line. So, contact when driving to the lane would favor the Tigers.
On the other hand, ticky-tack fouls or rebounding fouls would really hurt LSU because they do not have elite depth. Early foul trouble on key players can end a Tourney run with quickness.

2. Is the other team hot or cold from 3?
- We all know the team's trouble in getting through defensive rotations and closing out on open 3's. If LSU is playing a team lighting it up from behind the arc, you can basically start the engine for the bus ride home.

3. Is LSU consistently playing with discipline?
- There have been times, especially with large leads, where LSU makes silly mistakes: turning the ball over, launching tons of 3's, and getting offensive fouls by not moving the ball.
When they stick to the offense, work the paint, and move the ball to allow 1:1 drives, they are one of the most efficient offenses in the whole country.
Stick to the formula that works or try to get into a 3 point contest and prepare for the offseason.

March... and April to a greater extent... is usually about matchups and not having an off day.
Without a true, elite point guard, LSU has to play its best ball if it wants to get to the E8 or F4.
- Give great effort on defense to contest 3's by pressuring the ball and being early in rotating to close out on open shooters.
- Move the ball to open up driving lanes.
- Get offensive rebounds and draw fouls to win the FT battle.

It is an unorthodox recipe for success. But you gotta dance with the girl you brought.
Hopefully for LSU in 2020, she turns out to be Cinderella.

Our 3 point Defense has to be one of the worst in the entire country. We made Vandy look like an NBA team.

LSU's offense makes them a really dangerous team.

I think we're capable of beating anyone. However, we're also very capable of laying an egg and losing to anyone.

Taylor needs to start running that baseline more if he runs it enough and is consistent open, WW and team will see it and start making sure he gets the ball in the air below or above the rim

Man i am usually an eternal optimist on everything LSU, but this basketball team does not look good, their lack of 3 point defense, poor shooting stretches, and struggle on the boards make them a mediocre team. i will be happy with a tourney birth at this point.
Side Note- i've never seen a team that allows everyone back in the game in the last 2 minutes like this squad.

At some point though, the law of averages has to work for us and not against us. The team we are playing at some point has to attempt to kill us with 3's and throw up bricks that we rebound every time and blow them out from our inside game.

That's what has been so frustrating about the season so far. With Vandy and Auburn in the 2nd half, they could not fricking miss a 3 point shot. We really should have beaten Vandy by about 15 points.

LSU is a somewhat unpredictable team due to the fact the discrepancy between their offensive output and defensive output is so vast. RIGHT NOW LSU has a national champion caliber offense. They are a nightmare to defend because they are completely balanced. There is no single player a defense can focus on to take away. All 5 starters can score. And more importantly, ALL 5 can beat you one on one.

But defensively they are just so, so bad. Even the worst offenses are capable of lighting them up. See Vandy, which has a really BAD offense. Same for Mizzou (who shot ~50% vs. LSU). In the Kenpom top 50 only Virginia has greater discrepancy between offense and defense.

This LSU team is never completely out of any game, nor can they get comfortable win (Most recent ex: they led South Carolina by 19 with 5:00 to play on Sat.). You can't reliably pick them to win OR lose. But one thing seems pretty certain. If you want a guaranteed close finish in the NCAAT, just find out when LSU is playing and tune in.

Are you sure you're watching LSU games?

quote:

their lack of 3 point defense

certainly

quote:

poor shooting stretches,

They are the 3rd best offense in the nation and 5th in points per game. Offense isn't a problem...at all

quote:

struggle on the boards

?? They're one of the 20 best rebounding teams in the country and 10th best offensive rebounding team. They don't "struggle" on the boards

quote:

make them a mediocre team

While they haven't played elite overall basketball this season they are FAR from mediocre

Just goes to show how out of whack LSU fans can be (not you, the post you replied to)... remember three years ago when we would have killed somebody to be a lock for the tournament and potential dark horse for a deep run?
