I think the fight was a result of 2 2lame player called the pointer brothers. After a hit they would point at the other players. Some LSU players took exception to this, and did a lil pointing of their own.

I am not sure the rivalry will ever reach what it once was. Sad, because of the close proximity of the two schools, combined with the whole BR vs NO at anything. A lot of BR kids that wanted to play for LSU still end up at Tulane I would think..................

My Dad (LSU 1950) said that LSU and Tulane had such a rivalry back when he was there that two guys in New Orleans (one an LSU fan, the other Tulane) that the loser had to paint his house the winners' colors. According to what Dad said, this went on for quite a while.
He also said that some LSU fans went to Tulane's stadium and planted "LSU" in winter rye in the center of the field.
I'm sure that Tulane fans pulled pranks as well.

Yes, Tulane always wanted to spoil LSU's hopes for a bowl game. One year they came to TS with the motto, "LSU ain't sweet enough for Sugar" hoping to foil the Sugar Bowl.
But LSU wanted to beat Tulane just as much. It was a great rivalry.

Didn't Tulane steal Mike the Tiger way back when??

Yep, I know the weenie Engineering professor who has the lock from Mike's cage in prominent display in his office. He had several of his students pull the prank, which was actually dangerous as hell. They found Mike lying in the middle of the track facility around midnite...had he not been captured, he would have been roaming round a campus full of students.

Probably. But I don't remember my Dad saying that. But there may be some on TD who were back there during the 1940s and 1950s who could list some of the other things...
If you are around Gulf Shores, AL, and see a guy decked out in LSU garb, and looks to be around 81 years old, be sure to talk to him. He wears LSU stuff everywhere but to church.

They let him out. It was like in the late '70s. I seem to recall. Mike made it about as far as downtown BR, before being caught.
Am I wrong?

I was in Tiger Band then and that was a great night. Rekindled the ghosts of the many fights that took place between LSU and the weenies over the years. After the game my dad said "This game ended in the way it always should...a bench clearing brawl." He hated Tulane.

You're probably right.
I have a somewhat cloudy memory, of hearing about him roaming toward downtown, but I may be completely off base because that seems sort of fanciful.

My sister and I were riding around campus that night and saw Mike out. Kinda scary.

I want to say, my dad woke us up, to get in the car and see if we could go find him.
