Lsu was naive. Everybody knew this would become pay for play . Why wouldn’t it?

I agree. In the long run will be worse for (most) players because school and team become less of a priority, money and all the hangers on will cause more problems. Think about all the entitled 5 star guys that show up and think they’ve got it made , bigger than the team and act that way. Now you’ve got a lot more of those attitudes.

This is a 100 percent accurate assessment of LSU with regard to NIL .

Yep. And, the original intent was good.

Texas A&M and schools like that rolled up and ruined it immediately. LSU had to adjust and they will adjust.

At the end of the day, A&M and others who have to pay players to come will keep throwing out money and places like LSU with so much more to offer will have money and the rest of what makes LSU great. This will all even out. Coaching will still be key in player development. Culture, work ethic, team ... all of that will win out in the end. Money is a part of that. I get it. But, you can't buy integrity or value over the long term. Mercenaries eventually implode.

Could any realistic person have drawn any other conclusions. There are no longer any “higher purposes”. Who were they kidding.

Jim Thorpe was stripped of his amateur status and Olympic medals for getting “paid” to play baseball. Is NIL going to cause these athletes to loose their amateur status?

That was over a hundred years ago, and his medals were restored in 1983.

The Olympics eliminated amateurism requirements from all sports except wrestling and boxing 30 years ago. See: the Dream Team.

Players accepting NIL deals may run afoul of other amateur athletic organizations’ rules, but they don’t have to worry about the Olympics.

I think you meant to say NIL is what we on this board, who have been called old farts who hate free enterprise, said it was gonna be all along.

You’re welcome.

It was easy to see that this was going to happen.

Sadly is the truth. The IRS may see otherwise.
