We just have to let the young pitchers take their lumps and get experience. Such a shame we couldn’t have this year’s improved performance at the place while we had Hoover and Walljasper in the circle. I just don’t see us going very far in the postseason with shaky pitching.
The offense is really struggling bad this weekend. Amanda Sanchez especially over the last month.
Gorsuch and Wickersham seem to be regressing right now for whatever reason. Sunseri seems to be the only one who is showing life in the circle right now. Kilponen is very hit or miss. We just aren't playing very good softball overall right now.
Kilponen pitched well tonight

Why did Kilponen come out of the game, she was doing well?

I was really hoping that Gorsuch would be our ace this season, but as you said, she seems to have regressed. Wickersham was so impressive early on and is struggling now. I haven’t seen much of Kilponen, but I did see Goff pitch in person and she could barely get the ball from the mound to the plate. Beth is a pitching specialist. What gives?

I was really expecting a lot more from Gorsuch this year. I really though she could at least help those freshmen pitchers out and not put such a heavy load on them but it has not been the case. She looks like she did as a true freshmen right now. Wickersham's control has not been very consistent as of late. She is falling behind counts, half her balls are in the dirt. Not sure if she is having arm fatigue or other issues but its nothing like she was the first half of the year.
They completely changed Kilponen's mechanics up so I would assume that is one of the big reasons she is struggling.
Offensively this is probably one of the worst weekends of the entire season. Baylor's pitching is completely decimated and we have struggled to make contact or score runs. Its tough getting back after going down 5-0 in the 2nd innings but we have not been able to make any dent into that lead.
Just hoping they can salvage a series win vs Alabama. Not sure if we are going to host a supers if we drop this game. RPI wise, it isn't a horrific loss but it will hurt our chances of hosting a super regional. Committee is looking at RPI and the types of losses you have.

It's like we didn't even spend time to scout Baylor for this weekend. Only positive is teams around us in the RPI are losing too.

It will be interesting to see what our RPI is after this weekend
Next weekend is must win. A chance to win the SEC too but they have to play better ball. They did not look prepared or ready to play this weekend outside of Sunseri in the circle.
I am just shocked this team couldn't hit Baylor's pitching this weekend that has been demolished all year.

No problem man.
Doing this doubleheader today makes me appreciate you all that much more. It is a lot of work and you get to watch very little of the actual game.

Bama won 3-1. Figures.
If we take 2 of 3 next weekend, today will be forgotten, but we just aren't playing as well right now as we were. Hopefully they get exams done and can just focus on softball and get hot again.

She hit it to University Parks Blvd. She should get frequent flyer miles for that epic shot.

The problem both for Gorsuch and Wickersham is they both rely on strikes low in the zone. If they get an umpire that does not call strikes low in the zone, those two are toast.
Sunseri and Kilponen throw strikes all over the zone, and they are no so affected by the umpires as are Gorsuch and Wickersham.
To be fair, though, in both games today, I thought Gorsuch in the first game was not getting strikes called, and it even looked like the umpire was favoring Baylor. I dont know maybe the camera angle made the difference, since it is too far off center, but the same thing happened in the second game, Wickersham did not get strikes called low in the zone, but the umpire in the second game may have been a little less "biased".
None of us know what pitches Beth is calling. We don't know if the pitcher is getting ahead on count and then Beth tells her to waste three pitches, and then come back on a full count. Some pitchers do not like that pressure, others are not bothered by it.
I really wanted to watch a replay but do not know how, cant find a way to watch the game again....but it looked like Serrett was going too far into the outfield after some of the shallow fly balls. I think that happened at least twice and both times it messed up Stewart's focus.
Offensively, not stringing the hits together. Bad luck, and some great defensive plays by Baylor... contributed to this loss. Schlatmann jammed herself on her last two at bats. Thornhill just didnt hit the ball squarely.
One thing about Thornhill, that kid has an eye for the ball, she is getting more and more of a tough out to get. She dont chase bad pitches. Very disciplined. Such an improved player.. i hope she climbs out of the rut she is in.

There were no hits to string together. I believe we only had 8 hits in the 2 games. We need to start hitting the ball where it is pitched. Our righties continue to strike out on outside pitches.
