re: Ole Miss 5 @ LSU 3 Final - SECN
Posted by Bhs1983 on 5/10/23 at 3:12 pm to Tigerbreathe
What I see.....
The pitchers, too many of them, not just LSU... will field a ball with a runner on third, and no outs or one out, and throw the ball to first base without checking the runner on third.. this is getting so old, I can't believe a college level player dont know better, and I cant believe a college coach doesnt make a big deal of it when the defense comes off the field.
Physical mistakes will be made, but you can't have the mental errors on a college level like that.
There's really nothing, in the lineup, that could be changed. .. you just have good players making defensive mistakes.
As for Howard, like I always said, we dont know how much he does in terms of altering the way each player bats, but he is responsible for the final product.
I used to think that if Beth was fired, or if she expressed desire to go elsewhere, one of the SEC teams would snatch her up quickly. Maybe South Carolina... but the coaches at each of the other SEC schools seem to shift things around, according to how things are going...
Beth seems to want to keep things the same, I guess....as she says, she is happy with where they are. I like her, and I dont want to see her leave, but there is a staleness that permeates the air these days with LSU Softball.

I would think an SEC head coaching job in softball would be more prestigous than one, say, in Sunbelt. Georgia will probably pay well for Lu's replacement. They have a great batting coach.

Lotief wants Howard’s job. Howard could be a head coach again.

For sure. They could use her if Dalton is gone. That would be a step down, considering the level of teams in their conference.

A person signed on to another forum and said she is Taylor Pleasants mother. She said Taylor is not leaving, does not have one foot out the door. That is what the post said.
He sells merch, believe it or not.
If there is ever an all time lsu softball team bailey landrys name is the first one that comes up along with Jaquish

Thats exaclty right. That means a player lacks one dimension of the offensive element of the game.

I agree with the idea of a slapper being the ones who take on the role of getting on base. The problem is they dont always lead off and if there is a runner on second bAse the slapper usually dont drive that run in and it takes a second hit to do it.
I understand what you are saying. Nicole Mendes is what you described As a true slapper and she can swing away. Andrews was not that way jn her first two years. She is now.
Briggs can swing away and can slap.
Many never transform from touch and go to the full range. Griggs in her last year made the transirion

I know man what i am talking about is most of rhe ledthanders we havw are slappers.
Two slappers... two. Not a whole lineup full of them. They dont move a base runner two bases on a hit.
Tbey also drop off production wise against better teams.
I watched alabama and guess what happened....Brown was coming up to bat and Murphy pulled her and put a swing away hitter in to try and drive in the runner on 2nd base. I can live with two slappers in the lineup.

If you really want to find out is Pleasants is leaving, or thinking about it... find out the reasons WHY... that should tell you if it is true. She has played just about every play since she has been here... she has always batted at the top of the order.. I just dont see why she'd want to leave. and, like the others say, Beth has never said anything bad about her. If Beth is chalking that play up to lack of experience, it wont work. These kids have played ball since they were runts, and many of them have played year around.
Thats why 357 is calling out the idea of lack of experience..its just a pathetic excuse.

good post.. i will say this..there were times when I really thought Beth should let someone pinch hit for her.. but there wasn't really anybody there that had better than a 25 percent chance of driving in a run from second.
It just drove me crazy when they were runners on first and second and she'd hit the ball to third base ..

"Fallout" could come after those comments that mmade it seem like Pleasants was to blame for that play at second base.
I hope this is not a case of a bad reporter getting his quotes or facts mixed up. I am shocked if, indeed, this is how the interview went.

"I remember quite a few TD softball experts in 2017 and into 2018 saying Andrews was not a P5 player and was not worthy of wearing an LSU uniform. Remember? Some of those geniuses still post in these threads"
To be fair, back then, and all the way up till this season, Anbdrews was a one-dimensainla batter... hit onlt to the third base side of the field...even with a force to third..
in that mode, in the bottom of the 7th, down a run, two outs... and a runner on second...Andrews comes up to bat...
Again, back rhen it would take TWO HITS to score that run... Andrews would have to reach safely and the next batter would have to get a hit... in that mode she could not drive a runner in from second base with that kind of batting.

For Naomi’s sake i am glad she plays for Gajewski
Could be that the recruiting emphasis is on pitchers ( rhp’s only, no lefties) and the position players are recruited from feeder teams (travel ball).
All my friends in Texas used to go nuts because Mack Brown let all that talent come to Lsu and to other states. You cant assune that every lousiana kid is automatically going to want to come to Lsu. You lose players like Hemphill and Chaumaunt like that.
