LSU SOFTBALL at a pivotal point..

LSU no longer has the pitching staff that can blank the other team... even though the two pitchers who pitched in the Supers did very well.
We were always taught that we win or lose AS A TEAM. That is all fine and dandy, but any kind of honest analysis will turn up weak spots.
Pitching, Defense, and Batting...
Wickerhsam relies very heavily on pitch location, and she struggled with that this year. I think her confidence was shaken because of it. She keeps the ball down and low, and when she is forced to throw a strike and brings the ball up in the zone, she is vulbnerable. I believe 2022 will be a better year for her.
Maybe we will see the younger pitchers develop... but Sunseri and Kilponen are very good pitchers. If we are forced to use just those two, we will be ok in that area.
Who the heck is going to play third base???? Coffey seemed to shy away from getting in front of a hard-hit grounder..I think Perkins plays third base, but, as always, the coaching staff knows more than we do... I hope a solid replacement appears.
Rumors are flying that Pleasants may be leaving. She is the best player they have. If that does go through, the shortstop for Auburn has entered the transfer portal... and she is very good, and she doesnt hit 10 home runs but she is over .300.
Second base, I have no idea what they will do...we might see Tidwell at third base. She seems to have the arm for it. That position is always controversial..I really like Coffey and hope she can start somewhere next year. She isnt lost at the plate like a lot of the batters are.
Clark and Guiterrez are fine at first base.. I'd throw Guiterrez into right field because she's got an arm. Leave Clark at first base.
Catcher..something different has to be done next year.. experience, or lack of, is not the issue here. There are a few in the transfer portal that may be worth looking at.. Need someone who is consistent behind the plate, throws out runners, and can hit. If Cummins becomes that player, that is fine... I would make sure this does not become a case of a pencil-in like Quinn was the year she made 20 errors.
I am sure Briggs will move to Centerfield and that is probably where she usually plays. She is a natural softball player, is smooth in all she does, has speed, and is dependable.
Stewart will play left field, I believe... Like Coffey, Briggs, and some of the others, Stewart works the count...is a smart, smart batter.
Put Guiterrez in right...and they got a number of players that are solid in the outfield, I am not worried too much about the outfield.
As for batting.. I will say up front if you look around, the best teams in the country are SWING AWAY teams, they dont lean on slapping.. its the reason Georgia is in the World Series, they get up there and swing away. "Small ball" loses its effectiveness as competition improves..
I believe that both Tidwell and Cummins are candidates for a total, A to Z remake on their whole batting approach...all of it... even their mindset and philosophy..their stance,, everything...
At some point, someone made the comment ( I dont know if it is true) that the players were told to get under the ball. I think it is unlikely, but, whether or not they are told to do so... Cummins seems to want to launch the ball moon-ward. You can see Sunseri dipping the bat and dropping her shoulder as she swings...looks like she is aiming for the bottom half of the ball, instead of square contact.
All the things we were taught were taboo... dumping the barrell, dropping the shoulder.. swinging off the back foot.. you see that in the batting approach of many on the team.
They need to forget about trying to place the ball and swing away. Its what the best teams do..their players use the full range of the field, not saying they target from one side to the other, but that they are not trying to consistently hit to one side... Andrews took too long making that adjustment..she had become a one dimensional batter hitting the ball betweem 2nd and 3rd base for her whole career until last half of her final season.
n boxing, there's a the "Puncher's chance"... if you swing, you might land that punch that wins it all.... its the same way with batting... if you go up there with a swing away mindset...great things can happen.
That's the chance LSU has to take. They cant keep on with the slappers and the slapping..
Who knows what 2022 will bring? One thing LSU needs to think about is what they are doing now will have them as a middle of the road team for years to come.
--Stop recruiting slappers
---Get a LEFT HANDED PITCHER, a few of them
--go to the transfer portal and fill in the spaces that you have
--get rid of that stupid launch angle garbage..
If what happened this year is good enough, if the coaches are satisfied, no changes will be made. I hate to sound pessimistic... but I think you will see the same bunch out there next year, and the results will be the same.

Lost me at “softball”. The rest was unnecessary.

The Geneva Convention states that softball threads must be limited to no more than three sentences.

They have to address the horrendous situation at catcher and hit better as a team (which requires better development at the plate). A left handed pitcher is nice although not essential. There should also be more competition in my opinion. You have a gigantic roster and we see basically the same 9 kids every week. A couple of them don't do much at the plate and on defense.
I heard of a couple of current kids looking to go into the portal but Pleasants isn't one of them. That would be a disastrous loss. I'll believe that one when I see it.

Even though I think the post is a bit much, why click on the thread if you aren't interested or give a frick? Just move along.
No need to be a bitch. I see nothing wrong with the OP wanting to have a discussion. Isn't that what this board is for? Or do we need another 100 Gilbert threads?

I was interested until it was 30 paragraphs and I realized he’s a self indulgent douchebag like you are with your posts.

Imagine waiting on me to respond so you could post that. I live in your dome and your wife’s throat

I am skeptical she'd transfer, but it is a circulating rumor. Kentucky's third baseman I believe is transferrinf to Mizzou. I hope Pleasants stays, if she is gone they might wan to look at Auburn's shortstop who is in the portal.

Yep catcher needs to be addressed. Not sure if Calland is the answer but she didn’t get much time this year. I think Tidwell could be 3b and Coffey to 2nd.
I haven’t heard anything about Taylor. I don’t see her leaving. She’s from Houston, so not really a homesick factor.
Next year this team should be really strong. Need to improve the bats but will have tons of experience.
