Coaching career
In 2016, Mawae joined the Chicago Bears coaching staff as an assistant offensive line coach. He was not retained by the Bears for the 2017 season.

Love Mawae but a one year career as an assistant OL coach makes one qualified to be an OL coach at a
P5? That's Alleva kinda thinking right there.

HFS can you be?

If you have been there and done that at a high level, you can coach kids to do it as well. And you can assess high school talent and HEART to pick the kids you really can do it and want to learn and grow.

HFS can people be?

It also doesn’t mean he’s not a good coach. We’ll never know either way. Having that guy in the film room and teaching kids how to read defenses would be nothing but good for LSU

I said it doesn't mean he can't be a good coach. The point is he is unknown, you don't take a guy with zero experience and make him an OL coach at a major college program just because he's an alum

I said last year if you want to beat Bama go drop about 3/4Mil on Shane Cochran. Saban would have a stroke and Bama would suffer the loss. Kill two birds with one stone. Saban gave Cochran a raise to 500k about a year or two ago because he was afraid Kirby was going to try to take him to UGA. That is about double most S&C coaches in major programs. I agree, Moffit aint gettin it done anymore.

Hiring Doug Planchard to coach OL would be an Alum hire. Mawae is THE greatest to EVER play the position at the HIGHEST level possible. Tell me you understand the difference.

Yes, read the whole thread, being a great player, even the GREATEST to ever play the position DOES NOT MEAN HE CAN COACH. It doesn't mean he can't coach, but he needs experience. The idea that Mawae (or any great player) knows more because he was great, that he can just pass on that knowledge is simply faulty logic.

Hi kid. My name is Coach Kevin Mawae. I played at LSU and in the NFL. I’m in the HOF of both. I can teach you what I did to get there.”

Done.

There is a little more to the art of recruiting than this, but this is the essence of what Miles ' people used to tell kids.

The guy is literally the best to ever play the hardest OL position on the field. It’s insane that anyone could have anything negative to say about getting that guy on the staff over Jeff Grimes

Probably right on the fact that he might have been the best at that position in the last 30-40 years in the NFL. I really don't know why someone in this state has NOT hired him. Hell, Chris Truax has/had a job in coaching(McNeese or Northwestern) and he was only ever a part time starter while at LSU
