What if they were Arab students with a crescent moon on their chests that Lsu photoshopped out?

Still the same outrage?

Of course not

Says that LSU can't post a picture of students wearing a cross?
I don't think so.

And yes it would be just as crazy to airbrush out an Islamic symbol.

Nope only if you are a Christian. LSU painting over a turbin would cause the media to bash LSU for being insensitive. Makes me want to puke.

Wow, first of all they didn't censor anything from the television broadcast. Secondly, if it was a turbin that is not a religious symbol. It is clothing. If they felt the need to remove it that would probably have forced them to just use another picture.

Why do you feel it is ok to protest at a gay soldiers funeral, but not remove a cross from a picture? I guess it isn't just Christians that are attacked, but only "attacks" against Christians matter right?

I'm not a religious person at all, but LSU lost a bit of respect there. What the frick is the point of censoring the students? Who bitched and moaned enough to get them to change the photo?

If you don't like the cross, then don't use the photo. Are people really that scared of a 2" cross painted on someone's chest? How insecure do you have to be to have this bother you?

Great post....Obviously LSU changed the photo without anyone actually complaining about it in the first place. Liberals, Atheist, Secularist, etc. are so insecure it's laughable!

if someone behind them had been flipping the camera the bird, they would've photoshopped that out, as well, even though the motive for doing so wouldn't be condeming everyone who practices their right to flip the bird.

this just isn't a difficult topic to comprehend.

Well, when someone cuts me off in traffic and almost kills me, I don't pull out a cross and say "HEY, LOOK AT THIS RIGHT HERE, BUDDY!!!" Why? Because that wouldn't likely offend anyone. I'm more likely to stick my middle finger out of the window and say "YOU STUPID MOTHER TERESA!!!" (the previous example was edited to avoid offending anyone).

I don't think this is anything to be outraged about. They should've just picked another picture of the other thousands of LSU fans that look enthusiastic and show them just how they are to avoid any strange feelings.

God lets humans handle certain situations, but for our 2-loss national championship team he took matters into his own hands. Even God has a priority system...

that is missing the point. it is the university's obligation, as a state instution, not to display bias toward any religion. it is also the university's obligation not to display offensive gestures. both are obligations to the university, although their meanings are not at all similar.

they do. in every other picture they've ever taken and dispalyed. how many other pictures of enthusiastic students has the university taken and displayed, you ask? i'm guessing that, over the course of the athletic department's existence, the number is probably at least >100.

How dare you do this? Now is the time for all those who curse to rise up and complain. This is an obvious attack on them. You should have just chosen another sentence. I think a lawsuit might be pending.

Wow! If you have to ask this question, you are truly clueless. So, you want a government-supported and government-enforced religion? Which one? Whose version of God? Protestant? Catholic? And what about the millions of Americans who worship under the guise of Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, etc.? What about the issue of taxpayer funds being used to support a religion not everyone agrees with.

You're good? Thought so.

You do realize that the First Amendment states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" The two parts, known as the "establishment clause" and the "free exercise clause" respectively, form the textual basis for the Supreme Court's interpretations of the "separation of church and state" doctrine.

So is LSU prohibiting the free exercise of these students to wear a cross or not? The fact that a student’s speech is religious—from a Christian statement on a t-shirt to the symbol of the cross—does not lessen its protection under the First Amendment, even when that speech takes place on a public school campus. See Widmar, 454 U.S. at 269 (1981) (citing Heffron v. International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Inc., 452 U.S. 640 (1981)); see also Westside Community Schools v. Mergens, 496 U.S. 226 (1990).

As the Supreme Court has explained,

You still don't get it

Lsu cannot endorse a specific religion over another one etc. they liked the picture so they used it.

Seriously, some of you people are insane.

You don't want state sponsored religion unless its your own religion. How fitting

Yes, 1000 times yes. Preach sister. How dare they make them remove the crosses and leave the stadium?

Oh, wait.

I find it ironic how people with over 10,000 posts in less than a year and half are calling others attention whores

or with 20,000 posts in less than 4 years

It's a sliding scale so don't go ballistic on my math
