here...let me help

"We were really aggressive. Coach Cam [Cameron] called a lot of pass plays, but you've got to realize … if we go out there and we call a pass play and they're sending field pressure, they're sending a blitz that the average fan wouldn't know that they're sending, we check to a run play away from that blitz," said Harris, who completed 9 of 14 passes for 71 yards. "That's kind of how it went.

Well if they threaten to blitz he should be allowed to audible to align blockers, or play away from the blitz

My favorite part of that quote is his use of the phase average fan. Unfortunately the average fans here believe they are top level play callers and talent evaluators

I think it's awesome that he has grown to the point where he is recognizing defenses and making the right calls. Armchair quarterback, but It seems like the standard audible for a blitz is a slant route to the side where the blitz is coming from.

I'd like to know that the possibility also exists for him to check out of a run and go play action pass if he sees a stacked box. Hopefully, we'll get to see some of that as Miles' confidence in Harris grows.

The audible isn't on him. He gets the check from the sideline. I don't think that any CFB QB is allowed to do that anymore. Coaches are in total control

The kid was told to specifically avoid blitz situations. CLM and CC took the need for him to contend with Blitz packages off the table. He had quite a few balls to juggle....no need to add this one right now.

This makes sense. Running in to a blitz may not move the chains, but it certainly wont lead to a turnover. Safe call.

Next step would be to get Harris to check to a blitz-beating pass play or let him carry it instead of a run.

He'll get there.

This isn't the NFL and he's still a young QB. Miles probably has it set up so that if he gets a look he doesn't like he just changes the play rather than shifting people around. This isn't Drew Brees or Payton Manning we have at QB. Give him time.

Exactly what some of us said yesterday and got criticized for. If checking to a run is more favorable, then fine. Why can't the opposite be true?

Is this the most forthright interview ever given by an LSU QB?

Much better than Mett's, "Uh, Umm, (sarcastic comment), umm"

While this may be true, the problem for me is if these checks to runs continue to happen, teams will figure out that LSU won't check to a pass. You have to eventually show the ability (or threat) to pass in these situations, even if it's just a quick slant or screen. That's the only way to back the pressure off. Otherwise teams will pin their ears back and play the run.
