I was at the game and found the LSU offensive play calling to be a little "vanilla". They would line up and I was able to call what play they were probably going to run about 75% of the time....from the upperdeck in the stadium. Halfback dive for 3 yards...fall start....leaving second and 12....buble screen that either got a couple of yards or non at all (and sometimes lost yardage), leaving 3rd and long, when we finally tried to go down field. It was much better in the 3rd and espically the 4th quarter, when we finally started just dominating on the offensive line.

I was there too in the upper deck and thought we'd won that game. What do I know.

Maybe they're saving all of the good stuff for UGA and Bama. Hope so, because I agree that we are predictable to a fault. Why not fake that screen pass to KW and go deep to any WR or TE. Any misdirection like the TD pass from Hatch to Dickson will work.

Kudo's to the Wizard Crowten for that call at least. Let's be fair.

Ok, but if vanilla is good enough to win the game, then I'm cool with it. Offense isn't always about flash. It's about production. Then again, I have a great play for Crowton to run. Lee pitches the ball to RM, who gives it to Lafell on the reverse, who gives it to J. Mitchell on the double reverse, who pulls up and throws to Dickson on a hook pattern, who then pitches it to Byrd. The double reverse hook and ladder. That shite aint vanilla, its straight up neopolitan with sprinkles on top. And the best part is, it should only take about 20 minutes to develope. Also, that play by itself could be like 5 of the top 10 plays on sports center.

if this is really true, then you should be a d-coordinator, go to the athletic dept. this week and see if you can talk to Coach Miles about joining the staff so you can have some input

the main problem right now is all the D has to do is key off them fullback, particularly when QJ is in, to snuff the run. they mixed it up a little once Scott starting running some at FB which helped. In addition, some of it is probably wanting Lee to get into the flow of the game without too much complexity at the start of the game.

Some of you people on this board are just complete assholes. I am a true LSU fan, positive all of the time, and wanted some input. You cant hold a conversation without attacking someone personally? Come on...grow the f up and stop acting like an immature a-hole.

It got vanilla for a while. After the drive early in the game with Hatch and Lee switching off and a lot of diverse play calling, it became pretty much the same ole thing until late in the 3rd. Then they started using both QBs much more again and it worked. I think you will see much more of that from here on out, assuming it keeps working, just like you will see much more of KW as long as he can hit a hole. I think what you call vanilla is sometimes the offense going through their gameplan and making then adjustments are made.

Hatch gives the offense a real advantage (despite all the Hatch haters). With Lee in there it will continue to be vanilla. He is too young to read defenses and coverages. Of his pass plays, I think they ran about 5 different ones all night. Hell they ran the same play to Byrd 3 times. That shows a limited playbook for Lee. Hatch adds a factor that Lee won't bring and gives the defense something else to think about.

Either way, as long as we win it doesnt' matter.

I think the tone of the offense is dictated by the game. You take away a drop here and there, go ahead and push it in at then end, we win by 20+.

We've been used to seasoned QB's for a long time, and that has lended to a more open offense. I think it will come in time, JL is just being brought along slowly, thinks he's progressing very well.

A more aggressive, open offense is definitely on the horizon.

I agree with you on both counts. I don't think you were flaming the tigers. You were just making an observation. I am glad we won and I agree, the play calling is a little predictable. These plays may have worked well against app state or north texas but, I don't think they are going to work against the likes of Alabama and Georgia (or Ole Miss for that matter). I hope they are saving the best plays for these teams, they'll need them. I sure don't think I need to be a Dc or an Oc but, if the other team can't see these plays, I would question their ability. I believe the Tigers made a great adjustment at half-time that allowed them to win the game. They could have tacked on another one at the end but didn't, it was pointless to do so. I always hear " The team is young",I understand that this team is young but, what is all the practice for? The ones making the smart a$$ comments all the time probably think Florida got lucky and won.

I sat next to a bama guy a few years ago that said after every bama play "I knew they were going to run that play", most of the time it was followed with "throw to the damn tight end"

I agree that the offense looked pretty vanilla at times; however you have to agree as a whole the offense overall looked decent against a good SEC and National Defense.

I agree completely. They came out in the second half and put a great game plan together. I am just seeing wayyy to much of the same play...dive up the middle, bubble screen. It was not working and we kept going back to it. KW was the key to us opening it up. I was just making an observation.

there were more different formations and plays run from the shotgun/pistol in this game than any of the previous

fail. if you mean false start when you type "fall" start, well a false start penalty stops the play. meaning the 3 yard gain would not stand and it would be 1st and 15, not 2nd and 12.
