Is this factual? If so, with LSU's overall talent....that says a lot about AJ. Unfortunately, Les Miles has a man crush on AJ similar to the JJ man crush. This will hamper the offense's potential going forward...

I'm not sure if you actually know this, but you are one dumb mf...seriously. There have been LOTS of QBs that started their Fresh or RSFresh year and done very well.....Johnny Football...Tommy Hodson...could name a shite load of them. You are really one stupid mf. End of discussion.

chilge1 and I went back and forth last year about this issue. I agree with you, hollow, that many players succeed at QB without a ton of experience.

Chilge's stats also don't count third and fourth year players that got very little PT early in their career. So even though they're technically a Jr. or Sr., they have very little actual game experience.

Now, yes, being in "the system" can help a bit even if you don't play, but only marginally.

A good example of what chilge's stats miss is Blake Sims who, while being a Sr, didn't play a meaningful snap at QB prior to last year, and led his team to the playoffs. Also, Sims had a brand-spanking new Offensive Coordinator, so the "system" was new. With all of that, he managed to play well. Chilge's stats don't account for those types of guys.

So while I agree with Chilge that experience certainly helps, it isn't a requirement. Young, low-experience guys can get it done, if they're good enough and well-coached.

I will be surprised if we make it out of the west alive, our QBS have always found ways to lose a game.

Experience and talent will be the reasons for these improvements. You lose arguably the best QB and recievers in LSU history and replace them with freshman and sophmores with no experence and last years offense is what you end up with. We still have questions going into this year but i'm betting on talent and an extra year of experience being enough. I believe both of our QB's will be fine but if Harris starts the year with Dural, Dupree and Trey as his top targets and Fournette lined up behind him then the sky is the limit for the offense and the team. We're not starting the year with recievers with a total of 7 receptions and a freshman star running back with 0 carries on his career. The reason they starting all these treads about LSU offense is fear and they're right to fear us.

Let me get a hit of whatever it is you're smoking.

I appreciate your candor, but it ignores a long list of tenured quarterbacks that have been very successful in their first year of starting. AJ McCarron, Greg McElroy, Matt Flynn, and Matt Mauck are good examples of this.

While this is true, I believe you're missing part of the equation. I'd argue that young, low-experience guys can get it done 1) if they're good enough, 2) if they're well-coached, and 3) if the offensive system doesn't overly burden them.

They reason quarterbacks like Blake Sims, J.T. Barrett, Nick Marshall, Marcus Mariota, Tajh Boyd, Johnny Manziel, etc. etc. are able to be successful is because most of these quarterbacks rely on their offensive coordinator to make reads for them and simplify the offense. I find it unlikely that any of them will ever find success in the NFL, where offensive coordinators ask their quarterbacks to make pre-snap reads, like we do at LSU.

The unfortunate truth is that quarterbacks are simply not being developed in high school and arrive on campus with few of the attributes that will make them successful in a pro-style system.

Some programs, such as Auburn, Oregon, Ohio State, etc., have responded by simplifying their own offenses with the result being gaudy passing numbers to the detriment of the quarterback's professional career. Others, such as LSU, prefer to stand firm in the pro-style offense, which may take several years for a technically unsound quarterback, but results in a much shorter learning curve at the professional level.

Now, we can debate for months whether this commitment is beneficial or detrimental to LSU, but that's neither here nor there.

I would caution that both of our quarterbacks have much growth to do, and neither are close to their ceilings.

.... it happens, but it's not a common thing,

23 qb's in 5 years??? That's a common thing....

AGAIN....Miles needs to start Harris and take his lumps...If it means losing a game so be it... You have to start somewhere and the sooner he gets Harris in the games the sooner his confidence will rise and the more he will improve... AJ is NOT improving and there is ZERO game film of him improving from the Iowa game and the ND game...ZERO...........

You got it backwards, Peej... it's not Miles who needs to start Harris, it's Harris who needs to seize the starting job.

He's the more talented quarterback, he's the only one going through 7-on-7s, and at the very least, he'll be the starter for the season opener.

The opportunity is there for the taking.

I don't care what ANYONE says... IF AJ is available game one...he WILL start no matter who is better in fall practice... Miles weighs HEAVY on experience.. ALL this "Playing the guy that gives us the best chance to win" is crap... He thinks AJ IS that guy cause of experience... Just watch and see,, IF Miles starts AJ in the MSU game..LSU will lose.. And if he starts AJ in the AU game LSU will lose... AGAIN.. I have seen ZERO game film of AJ 's improvement from the Iowa game and the ND game.. I don't see when/where he will improve anymore.........

Jennings won't be available game one... his arrest is enough to be sure of that. It's up to Harris to convince the coaches there's no reason to give Jennings the job back once he's reinstated.

2011, Jefferson arrested for battery, suspended four games.

2013, Hill arrested for battery, suspended six quarters.

I can't speculate as to how Jennings will be disciplined, but it will involve a game suspension.

When Jefferson was suspended, did Miles name him the starter when he was reinstated, or when Lee couldn't hold onto the ball?

It's all there for Harris... he just needs to do what is asked of him.

Not the way Miles has been talking.. Just last week he was saying that AJ will be back soon and the competition will continue..... Doesn't look like any team penalties for AJ from what he has said........

How often do raw, mechanically flawed QBs that don't know the playbook succeed in CFB? Do you have a list of those?
