Murray would have been nice to hang on to

Yeah, I really thought he would stay and I really liked him and his upside. And it appears he's been easily the best of the lot listed.

Murray or Gaines would be huge for this team. Both solid defensively, can attack, and shoot.

I'm sure many would disagree with me but all 5 of those guys would make this team better.

Reid could rotate with KJ Williams, we dont have another center worth playing behind Williams right now.

Murray would start in front of Wilkinson.

Gaines or Pinson would start in front of Hill. And both would play 25+ minutes probably.

Fudge while I dont think he's starting material is better than Reed or Fountain, so probably a starter.

If those 5 guys were still on the team guys like Hill, Wilkinson, Hayes, Reed/Fountain are never guys we are counting on for high minutes basically.

I disagree. From a physical standpoint you prefer Gaines. But even though he is not shooting it a well as you would like right now, I think the staff would prefer Hill's reliability. Gaines has slightly better numbers. But his turnover % is the worst on their team and Hill has a better turnover ratio by 2:1. Absolutely this LSU team could use more explosive plays. But you can't have you PG giving the ball away on nearly 1/4th of his possessions (which is what Gaines is doing)

"Better" is subjective. I think Fudge would be better for what this LSU team needs right now. But I think Reed and Fountain have better overall skillsets in that they aren't just "rim-runners" on offense. IMO, one of the big keys to LSU being able to have any success once SEC play starts is if either Fountain or Reed (preferably both) can give you some consistency next to Williams. The coaches really, really, like Reed's potential as a 6'10 guy who can rebound and comfortably handle the ball on the wing. He just has to get more experience and develop.

Wish we kept all of them.

Pinson and Murray are ballers.

I'm not saying Gaines or Pinson are high level players by any means but Hill hasnt done anything impressive really so far. 4 assists to 1.5 turnovers is fine but that's not what we need when he cant score the basketball at 24% from 3 and sub 40% from 2. He just looks a tad overmatched and we havent even got to SEC play yet, we've mostly been playing mediocre to garbage teams. I get McMahon would probably have a preference of his own guy for his own system over others but Gaines and Pinson are absolutely better overall players than Hill and you cant really convince me otherwise. We downgraded there. Gaines, Pinson, Murray along with Miller would be the Top 4 guards here with Murray playing the Wilkinson spot more than likely. Hill should be a bench guy among that group playing maybe 15-20 minutes a game. Hayes would probably be my other rotating guard in that group with pinches of Wilkinson in spots. Hannibal wouldnt even play....I'm not including Justice Williams in there only because once again he's hurt and just no idea what you will see or get out of him over a longer haul.

It's just crazy to me how poor Reed and Ward are coming in with the hype surrounding them. No, didnt necessarily expect one or both to be high level top contributors, but certainly expected at least 1 of them to be pretty good and a guy we could go to at times and neither is remotely close to that. Fudge is a very limited offensive player, but even with that he is averaging almost the same ppg on a MUCH tougher UF schedule as Reed and Fountain combined right now and hes not starting either.

I hate to beat a dead horse but just feel like this team would be massively better with Wade still here and those guys still here. It's not McMahon's fault really, when Wade was canned those guys were going to leave regardless, just wish I saw McMahon getting a little more out of some guys.

I was thinking reid would surprisingly help too. He can shoot free throws and rebound okay. Its hard for people to see the lack of quality role players this year. However, it’s early and I look forward to seeing some growth from the younger players.
