Kiffin is ahead of others when it comes to this.
Interesting comment from Herbstreit and Reese last night discussing how LSU does it necessarily play the highest paid but will play whoever is best for the job even if they make less

Don’t hate the player hate the game! That’s what Dabo refuses to understand and why he got rolled yesterday

Don’t know if we’re the best yet. It’s a long season.

ESPN was talking about next weeks Ohio State/TexASS game next weekend, mentioning that both teams have $40M+ rosters.

He knows that college ball is now (semi)pro ball. Something that the NCAA, conferences and school administrators have yet to come to grips with.

I don't remember who said it, I want to say maybe Holly Rowe, but they said on the broadcast last night that it's a true meritocracy. They don't care who's getting paid what, where you're from, etc, they're putting the best players on the field.
A good example is probably someone like Harlem Berry. He was the #1 RB in the nation coming out of highschool, had a decent year last year and the staff prioritized getting him back, yet he was 4th on the depth chart when it came out.
That's refreshing to see after some of the reports we heard during BK's tenure. Not sure how true it is, but there were a few in the local media who said players would play because of what they were getting paid, not because of them earning it in practice or on the field.

The game has become a bidding war: schools, coaches, and players....sad

I like how they are looking for football intelligence and quality kids

Hence the reason BK failed, was just and is still collecting his check.

This staff likely has a different set of expectations than what Berry was used to. IIRC Lane said he was young and will learn in time, or something to that effect.
